In any action for dissolution of marriage, legal separation,\n\npaternity, or guardianship where minor children are involved, the\n\ncourt may, upon its own motion, or by motion or agreement of the\n\nparties, appoint a parenting coordinator to assist the parties in\n\nresolving issues and decide disputed issues pursuant to the\n\nprovisions of the Parenting Coordinator Act related to parenting or\n\nother family issues in the case except as provided in subsection B\n\nof this section, and subsection A of Section 120.5 of this title.\n\nB. The court shall not appoint a parenting coordinator if any\n\nparty objects, unless:\n\n1. The court makes specific findings that the case is a high-\n\nconflict case; and\n\n2. The court makes specific findings that the appointment of a\n\nparenting coordinator is in the best interest of any minor child in\n\nthe case.\n\nC. 1. The authority of a parenting coordinator shall be\n\nspecified in the order appointing the parenting coordinator and\n\nlimited to matters that will aid the parties in:\n\na. identifying disputed issues,\n\nb. reducing misunderstandings,\n\nc. clarifying priorities,\n\nd. exploring possibilities for compromise,\n\ne. developing methods of collaboration in parenting, and\n\nf. complying with the court’s order of custody,\n\nvisitation, or guardianship.\n\n2. The appointment of a parenting coordinator shall not divest\n\nthe court of its exclusive jurisdiction to determine fundamental\n\nissues of custody, visitation, and support, and the authority to\n\nexercise management and control of the case.\n\n3. The parenting coordinator shall not make any modification to\n\nany order, judgment or decree; however, the parenting coordinator\n\nmay allow the parties to make minor temporary departures from a\n\nparenting plan if authorized by the court to do so. The appointment\n\norder should specify those matters which the parenting coordinator\n\nis authorized to determine. The order shall specify which\n\ndeterminations will be immediately effective and which will require\n\nan opportunity for court review prior to taking effect.\n\nD. The parties may limit the decision-making authority of the\n\nparenting coordinator to specific issues or areas if the parenting\n\ncoordinator is being appointed pursuant to agreement of the parties.\n\nE. Meetings between the parenting coordinator and the parties\n\nneed not follow any specific procedures and the meetings may be\n\ninformal. All communication between the parties and the parenting\n\ncoordinator shall not be confidential.\n\nF. Nothing in the Parenting Coordinator Act shall abrogate the\n\ncustodial or noncustodial parent’s rights or any court-ordered\n\nvisitation given to grandparents or other persons except as\n\nspecifically addressed in the order appointing the parenting\n\ncoordinator.\n\nG. 1. Except as otherwise provided by this subsection, the\n\ncourt shall reserve the right to remove the parenting coordinator in\n\nits own discretion.\n\n2. The court may remove the parenting coordinator upon the\n\nrequest and agreement of both parties.
