Stat. tit. 43, § 43-551-204","heading":"Temporary emergency jurisdiction","body":"TEMPORARY EMERGENCY JURISDICTION\n\nA. A court of this state has temporary emergency jurisdiction\n\nif the child is present in this state and the child has been\n\nabandoned or it is necessary in an emergency to protect the child\n\nbecause the child, or a sibling or parent of the child, is subjected\n\nto or threatened with mistreatment or abuse.\n\nB. If there is no previous child custody determination that is\n\nentitled to be enforced under this act and a child custody\n\nproceeding has not been commenced in a court of a state having\n\njurisdiction under Sections 13 through 15 of this act, a child\n\ncustody determination made under this section remains in effect\n\nuntil an order is obtained from a court of a state having\n\njurisdiction under Sections 13 through 15 of this act. If a child\n\ncustody proceeding has not been or is not commenced in a court of a\n\nstate having jurisdiction under Sections 13 through 15 of this act,\n\na child custody determination made under this section becomes a\n\nfinal determination, if it so provides and this state becomes the\n\nhome state of the child.\n\nC. If there is a previous child custody determination that is\n\nentitled to be enforced under this act, or a child custody\n\nproceeding has been commenced in a court of a state having\n\njurisdiction under Sections 13 through 15 of this act, any order\n\nissued by a court of this state under this section must specify in\n\nthe order a period that the court considers adequate to allow the\n\nperson seeking an order to obtain an order from the state having\n\njurisdiction under Sections 13 through 15 of this act. The order\n\nissued in this state remains in effect until an order is obtained\n\nfrom the other state within the period specified or the period\n\nexpires.\n\nD. A court of this state which has been asked to make a child\n\ncustody determination under this section, upon being informed that a\n\nchild custody proceeding has been commenced in, or a child custody\n\ndetermination has been made by, a court of a state having\n\njurisdiction under Sections 13 through 15 of this act, shall\n\nimmediately communicate with the other court. A court of this state\n\nwhich is exercising jurisdiction pursuant to Sections 13 through 15\n\nof this act, upon being informed that a child custody proceeding has\n\nbeen commenced in, or a child custody determination has been made\n\nby, a court of another state under a statute similar to this section\n\nshall immediately communicate with the court of that state to\n\nresolve the emergency, protect the safety of the parties and the\n\nchild, and determine a period for the duration of the temporary\n\norder.","path":["OK Code","Title 43"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os43.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"b24fd5d99064d233452389e1ad4e3ef3fb480edace925fac7d73960e228d631e","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-43-43-551-203","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-43-43-551-205"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
