Except as otherwise provided in Section 16 of this act, a\n\ncourt of this state may not exercise its jurisdiction under this\n\narticle if, at the time of the commencement of the proceeding, a\n\nproceeding concerning the custody of the child has been commenced in\n\na court of another state having jurisdiction substantially in\n\nconformity with this act, unless the proceeding has been terminated\n\nor is stayed by the court of the other state because a court of this\n\nstate is a more convenient forum under Section 19 of this act.\n\nB. Except as otherwise provided in Section 16 of this act, a\n\ncourt of this state, before hearing a child custody proceeding,\n\nshall examine the court documents and other information supplied by\n\nthe parties pursuant to Section 21 of this act. If the court\n\ndetermines that a child custody proceeding has been commenced in a\n\ncourt in another state having jurisdiction substantially in\n\naccordance with this act, the court of this state shall stay its\n\nproceeding and communicate with the court of the other state. If\n\nthe court of the state having jurisdiction substantially in\n\naccordance with this act does not determine that the court of this\n\nstate is a more appropriate forum, the court of this state shall\n\ndismiss the proceeding.\n\nC. In a proceeding to modify a child custody determination, a\n\ncourt of this state shall determine whether a proceeding to enforce\n\nthe determination has been commenced in another state. If a\n\nproceeding to enforce a child custody determination has been\n\ncommenced in another state, the court may:\n\n1. Stay the proceeding for modification pending the entry of an\n\norder of a court of the other state enforcing, staying, denying, or\n\ndismissing the proceeding for enforcement;\n\n2. Enjoin the parties from continuing with the proceeding for\n\nenforcement; or\n\n3.
