Stat. tit. 43, § 43-7.1","heading":"Refusal to solemnize or recognize marriage by religious","body":"organization officials - Definitions.\n\nA. No regularly licensed, ordained or authorized official of\n\nany religious organization shall be required to solemnize or\n\nrecognize any marriage that violates the official's conscience or\n\nreligious beliefs. A regularly licensed, ordained or authorized\n\nofficial of any religious organization shall be immune from any\n\ncivil claim or cause of action based on a refusal to solemnize or\n\nrecognize any marriage that violates the official's conscience or\n\nreligious beliefs.\n\nB. As used in this section:\n\n1. \"Recognize\" means to provide religious-based services that:\n\na. are delivered by a religious organization or by an\n\nindividual who is managed, supervised or directed by a\n\nreligious organization, and\n\nb. are designed for married couples or couples engaged to\n\nmarry and are directly related to solemnizing,\n\ncelebrating, strengthening or promoting a marriage,\n\nsuch as religious counseling programs, courses,\n\nretreats and workshops; and\n\n2. \"Religious organization\" means any church, seminary,\n\nsynagogue, temple, mosque, religious order, religious corporation,\n\nassociation or society, whose identity is distinctive in terms of\n\ncommon religious creed, beliefs, doctrines, practices or rituals of\n\nany faith or denomination, including any organization qualifying as\n\na church or religious organization under Section 501(c)(3) or 501(d)\n\nof the United States Internal Revenue Code.","path":["OK Code","Title 43"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os43.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"84227a32a715f63d42038aedac925164dd37e12f72a2dfe45338cbabd6bdc5e1","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-43-43-7","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-43-43-8"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
