Contingent upon funding, the Department of Mental Health and\n\nSubstance Abuse Services shall develop and implement a mental health\n\nfirst aid pilot program. The purpose of the mental health first aid\n\npilot program shall be to train non-mental-health professionals in\n\nhow to support an individual in a mental health crisis situation\n\nuntil professional help can be obtained.\n\nB. The Department shall adopt a curriculum which, at a minimum,\n\nshall include training for individuals on the symptoms, causes and\n\nevidence-based treatments for common mental health problems,\n\nincluding, but not limited to, depression, anxiety disorders,\n\npsychosis, and substance abuse disorders. The curriculum shall also\n\naddress possible crisis situations arising from these mental health\n\nproblems and steps to support an individual in a crisis situation.\n\nC. The Department shall issue a certificate in mental health\n\nfirst aid to individuals who complete the course of training. The\n\nDepartment shall establish criteria for certification.\n\nD. The Department is authorized to enter into a contract to\n\nimplement the provisions of this section.\n\nE. On or before December 31, 2009, and annually thereafter, the\n\nDepartment shall submit a report to the Legislature stating the\n\nnumber of participants in the program, the number of individuals who\n\nreceived a certificate in the program, and any recommendations for\n\nimprovement of the program.\n\nF.
