The Adjutant General shall have the rank of Major General\n\nand devote full time to the duties of the office. Regardless of\n\nwhether or not the Adjutant General has been recognized federally at\n\nthe rank of Major General at the time of appointment by the\n\nGovernor, the Adjutant General shall be compensated at the same rate\n\nof pay afforded to a Major General serving on federal Title 10\n\nactive duty with the same time in service.\n\nB. The Governor may appoint Assistant Adjutants General for\n\nArmy and Assistant Adjutants General for Air to assist the Adjutant\n\nGeneral in the discharge and performance of his or her duties. When\n\nappointing Assistant Adjutants General, the Governor shall take into\n\nconsideration the number of such positions contemplated or\n\nrecommended by the National Guard Bureau for manning the joint\n\nforces headquarters of a state. Such Assistant Adjutants General\n\nshall have the qualifications prescribed by law for the Adjutant\n\nGeneral and shall have the rank of Brigadier General. The Assistant\n\nAdjutants General appointed by the Governor shall be considered\n\nstaff officers and not commanders except that, in the discretion of\n\nthe Adjutant General, specific command or supervisory authority may\n\nbe delegated by the Adjutant General to an Assistant Adjutant\n\nGeneral but such delegation shall be accomplished in writing and\n\nshall be considered a military publication, as defined in Section\n\n801 of this title (Article 1).\n\nC. Other general officers assigned to billets within the state\n\nmilitary forces, including certain billets within the joint forces\n\nheadquarters, shall be considered staff officers and not commanders\n\nexcept that, in the discretion of the Adjutant General, specific\n\ncommand or supervisory authority may be delegated by the Adjutant\n\nGeneral to such general officers, but such delegation shall be\n\naccomplished in writing and shall be considered a military\n\npublication, as defined in Section 801 of this title (Article 1).\n\nD. The Adjutant General may employ a state employee in the\n\nposition of Executive Assistant and Programs Manager for the\n\nMilitary Department of the state.
