The military judge and members of a general or special\n\ncourt-martial may be challenged by the accused or the trial counsel\n\nfor cause stated to the court. The military judge shall determine\n\nthe relevancy and validity of challenges for cause, and may not\n\nreceive a challenge to more than one person at a time. Challenges\n\nby the trial counsel shall ordinarily be presented and decided\n\nbefore those by the accused are offered.\n\n2. If exercise of a challenge for cause reduces the court below\n\nthe number of members required by Section 816 of this title (Article\n\n16), all parties shall, notwithstanding Section 829 of this title\n\n(Article 29), either exercise or waive any challenge for cause then\n\napparent against the remaining members of the court before\n\nadditional members are detailed to the court. However, peremptory\n\nchallenges shall not be exercised at that time.\n\nB. 1. Each accused and the trial counsel are entitled\n\ninitially to one peremptory challenge of the members of the court.\n\nThe military judge may not be challenged except for cause.\n\n2. If exercise of a peremptory challenge reduces the court\n\nbelow the number of members required by Section 816 of this title\n\n(Article 16), the parties shall, notwithstanding Section 829 of this\n\ntitle (Article 29), either exercise or waive any remaining\n\nperemptory challenge (not previously waived) against the remaining\n\nmembers of the court before additional members are detailed to the\n\ncourt.\n\nC.
