Stat. tit. 45, § 45-916","heading":"Equipment - Rules and procedures","body":"The following rules and procedures shall be complied with in\n\ndealing with the use of equipment:\n\n1. Gears, sprockets, chains, drive, head, tail and take-up\n\npulleys, flywheels, couplings, shafts, saw blades, fan inlets and\n\nsimilar exposed moving machine parts which may cause injury to\n\npersons shall be guarded;\n\n2. Overhead belts shall be guarded if the whipping action from\n\na broken belt would be hazardous to persons below;\n\n3. Guards at conveyor drive, head and tail pulleys shall be\n\nsufficient to prevent a person from reaching behind the guard and\n\nbecoming caught between the belt and the pulley;\n\n4. Protruding set screws on revolving parts shall be guarded;\n\n5. Except when testing the machinery, guards shall be securely\n\nin place while machinery is being operated;\n\n6. Guards shall be sufficiently strong and maintained to\n\nprovide the required protection;\n\n7. Stationary grinding machines other than special bit grinders\n\nshall be equipped with:\n\na. peripheral hoods, less than ninety-degree throat\n\nopenings, capable of withstanding the force of a bursting wheel,\n\nb. adjustable tool rests set as close as practical\n\nto the wheel, and\n\nc. safety washers;\n\n8. Face shields or goggles, in good condition, shall be worn\n\nwhen operating a grinding wheel;\n\n9. Hand-held power tools, other than rock drills, shall be\n\nequipped with controls requiring constant hand or finger pressure to\n\noperate the tools or shall be equipped with friction or other\n\nequivalent safety devices;\n\n10. Guards or shields shall be provided in areas where flying\n\nor falling materials present a hazard;\n\n11. Vehicles such as forklifts, trucks, front-end loaders and\n\nbulldozers shall be provided with roll bar protection when necessary\n\nto protect the operator;\n\n12. Forklifts, trucks, front-end loaders and bulldozers shall\n\nbe provided with substantial canopies when necessary to protect the\n\noperator against falling material;\n\n13. Unsafe equipment or machinery shall be removed from\n\nservice immediately;\n\n14. Machinery and equipment shall be operated only by\n\nauthorized and experienced persons;\n\n15. Repairs or maintenance shall not be performed on machinery\n\nuntil the power is off and the machinery is blocked against motion,\n\nexcept when machinery motion is necessary to make adjustments or\n\nwhen non-energized components of large machinery can be safely\n\nrepaired while the machine is operating;\n\n16. Men shall not work on mobile equipment in a raised\n\nposition until it has been blocked in place securely. This does not\n\npreclude the use of equipment specifically designed, such as\n\nelevated mobile work platforms;\n\n17. Drive belts shall not be shifted while in motion unless\n\nthe machines are equipped with mechanical shifters;\n\n18. Belts, chains, and/or ropes shall not be guided onto\n\npower-driven moving equipment especially designed for hand feeding;\n\n19. Pulleys or conveyors shall not be cleaned manually while\n\nthe conveyor is in motion;\n\n20. Belt dressing shall not be applied manually while belts\n\nare in motion unless an aerosol-type dressing is used; and\n\n21.
