Stat. tit. 45, § 45-918","heading":"Augering - Rules and procedures","body":"The following rules and procedures shall be complied with in\n\ndealing with augering:\n\n1. Planning:\n\nbefore augering is done, advance planning shall be\n\nmade to insure that no hazards shall be created affecting active\n\nunderground workings. Auger mine workings and holes drilled shall\n\nbe located so as to prevent:\n\n(1) interference with the ventilation system of\n\nany underground mine, and\n\n(2) inundation hazards from the surface to\n\nactive underground workings;\n\n2. Inspection:\n\na. at least fifty (50) feet on each side of\n\nhighwalls being drilled shall be inspected for loose material before\n\ndrilling or other work in the area is begun, and an inspection shall\n\nbe made at least once during each operating shift,\n\nb. when abandoned mines or abandoned parts of active\n\nmines are penetrated by drilling, machinery shall be stopped and\n\ntests shall be made at the collar of the hole for explosive gas or\n\noxygen or oxygen deficiency by a certified person qualified to use\n\napproved instruments to make such tests. If tests show the presence\n\nof gas or the lack of oxygen, the equipment shall not be operated\n\nuntil the condition has been corrected;\n\n3. Auger holes; persons not to enter:\n\na. no person shall enter an auger hole for any\n\npurpose without having first received permission from a\n\nrepresentative of the Oklahoma Department of Mines,\n\nb. auger machines and other related equipment on\n\nwhich persons are required to work during drilling operations shall\n\nbe protected against falling material from highwalls by heavy gauge\n\nscreen or equivalent material subject to the approval of the mine\n\ninspector. The protective screen shall permit workmen to keep the\n\nhighwall in view at all times,\n\nc. no work shall be done on the highwall in the\n\nvicinity of drilling equipment while it is in operation;\n\n4. Auger equipment; operation:\n\na. persons shall stay clear of the auger train while\n\nit is in motion, and they shall not pass over or under the auger\n\ntrain except where crossing facilities are provided; b. persons\n\nmust be in the clear while auger sections are being swung into\n\nposition,\n\nc. auger operators shall not leave the controls of\n\nthe equipment while the auger is operating, and\n\nd. when auger operations are performed after dark,\n\nadequate illumination shall be provided;\n\n5.
