Stat. tit. 47, § 47-1-174","heading":"Taxicab","body":"Taxicab shall mean and include any motor vehicle for hire,\n\ndesigned to carry eight (8) persons or less, operated upon any\n\nstreet or highway, or on call or demand, accepting or soliciting\n\npassengers indiscriminately for transportation for hire between such\n\npoints along streets or highways as may be directed by the passenger\n\nor passengers so being transported. This classification shall not\n\ninclude:\n\n1. Motor vehicles of eight-passenger capacity or less operated\n\nby the owner where the cost of operation is shared by fellow workmen\n\nbetween their homes and the place of regular daily employment, when\n\nnot operated for more than two trips per day;\n\n2. Motor vehicles operated by the owner where the cost of\n\noperation is shared by the passengers on a \"share the expense plan\";\n\n3. Motor vehicles transporting students from the public school\n\nsystem when the motor vehicle is so transporting under contract with\n\npublic, private or parochial school board or governing body, or\n\n4.
