The Department of Public Safety is authorized to establish\n\nOperation Work Zone Awareness. Operation Work Zone Awareness is a\n\nprogram designed to educate the motoring public on the dangers of\n\ncommitting moving violations while traveling in highway construction\n\nwork zones. The Department is authorized to develop and house on\n\nits website an online work zone awareness presentation that may\n\ninclude, but not be limited to, facts and figures representing the\n\ndangers of motorists committing work zone moving violations,\n\ntestimonials from highway construction workers and their families,\n\ninformation on the importance of awareness and slowing down in work\n\nzones, and a question-and-answer section to ensure participants\n\nunderstand and retain the information presented. The Department is\n\nauthorized to contract for the production, development, and\n\nmaintenance of the webpage through a vendor. The Department shall\n\nmaintain in its database a record of those completing the program.\n\nB. Motorists receiving a citation for committing moving\n\nviolations within a work zone may receive information regarding an\n\ninvitation to participate in the Operation Work Zone Awareness\n\nprogram. A motorist who participates in and completes the online\n\nprogram shall receive a certificate designed and issued by the\n\nDepartment. Any person producing the certificate as proof in court\n\nthat the program was successfully completed shall be entitled to\n\ndismissal of the fine. If proof of successful completion of the\n\nprogram is presented to the court in person or electronically, no\n\nlater than the business day preceding the first scheduled court\n\nappearance date, the dismissal shall be without payment of court\n\ncosts. The court may access information from the Department's\n\nsystem to confirm completion of the program. Offenders may\n\nparticipate in and complete the program a maximum of one time.\n\nAfter completing the program, a motorist who receives another\n\ncitation in a work zone will be disqualified from utilizing the\n\nprogram benefits a second time. If a motorist so chooses, he or she\n\nmay not participate in the program and instead pay the fine imposed\n\non the issued citation. Holders of commercial driver licenses cited\n\nwhile driving a commercial motor vehicle are not eligible to\n\nparticipate in the program.\n\nC. Moving violations that qualify an offender to participate in\n\nthe Operation Work Zone Awareness program shall include, but not be\n\nlimited to, speeding, distracted driving, failure to move over,\n\nfailure to obey flagger, and failure to obey traffic control\n\ndevices. Motorists committing impaired driving offenses, as defined\n\nin Title 47 of the Oklahoma Statutes, in work zones, including\n\ndriving under the influence, driving while intoxicated, driving\n\nunder the influence under twenty-one (21) years of age, or a\n\ncommercial driver license holder refusing a chemical test while\n\ndriving any vehicle, shall be disqualified from the program.\n\nD. The fee paid by a motorist for his or her participation in\n\nthe Operation Work Zone Awareness program shall be Seventy-five\n\nDollars ($75.00) and shall be apportioned as follows:\n\n1. Thirty-five Dollars ($35.00) to be deposited in the\n\nDepartment of Public Safety Revolving Fund, created in Section 2-\n\n144.1 of Title 47 of the Oklahoma Statutes, to be used for\n\nmaintenance of the Operation Work Zone Awareness program;\n\n2. Fifteen Dollars ($15.00) to be deposited in the Department\n\nof Public Safety Patrol Vehicle Revolving Fund created in Section 2-\n\n143 of Title 47 of the Oklahoma Statutes; and\n\n3. Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) to be deposited in the Oklahoma\n\nCourt Information System Revolving Fund, created in Section 1315 of\n\nTitle 20 of the Oklahoma Statutes, to be used to offset expenses\n\nrelated to this program.\n\nThe Department is authorized to determine the manner in which fees\n\nmay be paid.","path":["OK Code","Title 47"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os47.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"fb3ab5d41b7d10f4685d086bd9ce2c77e2e9356ba65d72c6c25088271066fb93","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-11-1303","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-11-1401"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
