Stat. tit. 47, § 47-11-202","heading":"Traffic-control signal legend","body":"Whenever traffic is controlled by traffic-control signals\n\nexhibiting different colored lights or colored lighted arrows\n\nsuccessively one at a time, or in combination, only the colors\n\ngreen, red and yellow shall be used, except for special pedestrian\n\nsignals carrying a word legend, and the lights shall indicate and\n\napply to drivers of vehicles and pedestrians as follows:\n\n1. Green indication:\n\na. vehicular traffic facing a circular green signal,\n\nexcept when prohibited under Section 11-1302 of this\n\ntitle, may proceed straight through or turn right or\n\nleft unless a sign at such place prohibits either such\n\nturn. But vehicular traffic, including vehicles\n\nturning right or left, shall yield the right-of-way to\n\nother vehicles and to pedestrians lawfully within the\n\nintersection or an adjacent crosswalk at the time such\n\nsignal is exhibited,\n\nb. vehicular traffic facing a green arrow signal, shown\n\nalone or in combination with another indication, may\n\ncautiously enter the intersection only to make the\n\nmovement indicated by such arrow, or such other\n\nmovement as is permitted by other indications shown at\n\nthe same time. Such vehicular traffic shall yield the\n\nright-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within an\n\nadjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using\n\nthe intersection, and\n\nc. unless otherwise directed by a pedestrian-control\n\nsignal, as provided in Section 11-203 of this title,\n\npedestrians facing any green signal, except when the\n\nsole green signal is a turn arrow, may proceed across\n\nthe roadway within any marked or unmarked crosswalk;\n\n2. Steady yellow indication:\n\na. vehicular traffic facing a steady circular yellow or\n\nyellow arrow signal is thereby warned that the related\n\ngreen movement is being terminated or that a red\n\nindication will be exhibited immediately thereafter,\n\nand\n\nb. pedestrians facing a steady circular yellow or yellow\n\narrow signal, unless otherwise directed by a\n\npedestrian-control signal as provided in Section 11-\n\n203 of this title, are thereby advised that there is\n\ninsufficient time to cross the roadway before a red\n\nindication is shown, and no pedestrian shall then\n\nstart to cross the roadway; and\n\n3. Steady red indication:\n\na. vehicular traffic facing a steady circular red signal\n\nalone shall stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if\n\nnone, before entering the crosswalk on the near side\n\nof the intersection or, if none, then before entering\n\nthe intersection and shall remain standing until an\n\nindication to proceed is shown except as provided in\n\nsubparagraphs b and d of this paragraph,\n\nb. except when a sign is in place prohibiting a turn,\n\nvehicular traffic facing any steady red signal may\n\ncautiously enter the intersection to turn right or to\n\nturn left from a one-way street into a one-way street\n\nafter stopping as required by subparagraph a of this\n\nparagraph. Such vehicular traffic shall yield the\n\nright-of-way to pedestrians lawfully within an\n\nadjacent crosswalk and to other traffic lawfully using\n\nthe intersection,\n\nc. in order to prohibit right turns or left turns as\n\nprescribed in subparagraph b of this paragraph, on the\n\nred signal after the required stop, a municipality\n\nmust erect clear, concise signs informing drivers that\n\nsuch turns are prohibited. The Highway Department\n\nshall specify the design of the sign to be used for\n\nthis purpose, and it shall be used uniformly\n\nthroughout the state,\n\nd. notwithstanding any other provision of law, the driver\n\nof a motorcycle facing any steady red signal may\n\ncautiously proceed through the intersection only if:\n\n(1) the motorcycle has been brought to a complete\n\nstop as required by subparagraph a of this\n\nparagraph,\n\n(2) the traffic-control signal is programmed or\n\nengineered to change to a green signal only after\n\ndetecting the approach of a motor vehicle and has\n\nfailed to detect the arrival of the motorcycle\n\nbecause of its size or weight, and\nmay\n\ncautiously proceed through the intersection only if:\n\n(1) the motorcycle has been brought to a complete\n\nstop as required by subparagraph a of this\n\nparagraph,\n\n(2) the traffic-control signal is programmed or\n\nengineered to change to a green signal only after\n\ndetecting the approach of a motor vehicle and has\n\nfailed to detect the arrival of the motorcycle\n\nbecause of its size or weight, and\n\n(3) no motor vehicle or person is approaching on the\n\nroadway to be crossed or entered, or the motor\n\nvehicle or person is at a distance from the\n\nintersection that does not constitute an\n\nimmediate hazard.\n\nThe driver of any vehicle approaching the\n\nintersection, which lawfully may enter the\n\nintersection, shall have the right-of-way over any\n\nmotorcycle operator proceeding through a red light\n\nand, in no event where an accident results from the\n\ndriver of the motorcycle proceeding into the\n\nintersection on a red light, shall such driver of the\n\nvehicle be charged with any violation pursuant to\n\nSections 11-401 and 11-403 of this title relating to\n\nfailure to yield right-of-way, Section 11-310 of this\n\ntitle relating to following too closely, or Section\n\n11-801 of this title relating to driving too fast for\n\nconditions, and\n\ne. unless otherwise directed by a pedestrian-control\n\nsignal as provided in Section 11-203 of this title,\n\npedestrians facing a steady circular red signal alone\n\nshall not enter the roadway.\n\nIn the event an official traffic-control signal is erected and\n\nmaintained at a place other than an intersection, the provisions of\n\nthis section shall be applicable except as to those provisions which\n\nby their nature can have no application.
