Stat. tit. 47, § 47-11-309","heading":"Driving on roadways laned for traffic","body":"\n\nWhenever any roadway has been divided into two or more clearly\n\nmarked lanes for traffic, the following requirements in addition to\n\nall others consistent herewith shall apply:\n\n1. A vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practicable entirely\n\nwithin a single lane;\n\n2. A vehicle shall not be moved from the lane until the driver\n\nhas first ascertained that the movement can be made with safety and\n\nthen given a signal, not less than the last one hundred (100) feet\n\ntraveled by the vehicle, of his or her intention to change lanes;\n\n3. A two-way left-turn lane is a lane near the center of the\n\nhighway set aside for use by vehicles making left turns in both\n\ndirections from or into the roadway. Two-way left-turn lanes shall\n\nbe designated by distinctive roadway markings consisting of parallel\n\ndouble yellow lines, interior line dashed and exterior line solid,\n\non each side of the lane. A vehicle shall not be driven in a\n\ndesignated two-way left-turn lane except when preparing for or\n\nmaking a left turn from or into a roadway. Vehicles turning left\n\nfrom the roadway shall not be driven in the two-way left-turn lane\n\nfor more than two hundred (200) feet while preparing for and making\n\nthe turn. A vehicle turning left onto the roadway may utilize the\n\ntwo-way left-turn lane as a staging area by stopping and waiting for\n\ntraffic proceeding in the same direction to clear before merging\n\ninto the adjacent lanes of travel. A left turn shall not be made\n\nfrom any other lane where a two-way left-turn lane has been\n\ndesignated. Provided, however, this section shall not prohibit\n\ndriving across a two-way left-turn lane when moving from a service\n\ndrive onto such marked roadway;\n\n4. A vehicle shall not be driven in the left lane of a roadway\n\nexcept when overtaking and passing another vehicle; provided,\n\nhowever, this paragraph shall not prohibit driving in the left lane\n\nwhen traffic conditions, flow or road configuration, such as the\n\npotential of merging traffic, requires the use of the left lane to\n\nmaintain safe traffic conditions; provided further, this paragraph\n\nshall not prohibit driving in the left lane of a roadway within the\n\ncity limits of a municipality or upon a county road as long as such\n\nroadway is not part of the National System of Interstate and Defense\n\nHighways or a turnpike; and\n\n5. Official signs may be erected directing slow-moving traffic\n\nto use a designated lane or designating those lanes to be used by\n\ntraffic moving in a particular direction regardless of the center of\n\nthe roadway, and drivers of vehicles shall obey the directions of\n\nevery such sign.\n\nAny person convicted of violating any provision of this section\n\nshall be punished as provided for in Section 17-101 of this title.","path":["OK Code","Title 47"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os47.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"c76452370bcc1f9d2cf50c6b067bcdd6ea9a5113a2cb3af786c283f66979e897","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-11-308b","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-11-310"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
