Stat. tit. 47, § 47-11-310","heading":"Following too closely","body":"(a) The driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow another\n\nvehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due\n\nregard for the speed of such vehicles and the traffic upon and the\n\ncondition of the highway.\n\n(b) The driver of any truck or motor vehicle drawing another\n\nvehicle when traveling upon a roadway outside of a business or\n\nresidential district and which is following another truck or motor\n\nvehicle drawing another vehicle shall, whenever conditions permit,\n\nleave sufficient space so that an overtaking vehicle may enter and\n\noccupy such space without danger, except that this shall not prevent\n\na motor truck or motor vehicle drawing another vehicle from\n\novertaking and passing any like vehicle or another vehicle.\n\n(c) No vehicle which has more than six tires in contact with\n\nthe road shall approach from the rear of another vehicle which has\n\nmore than six tires in contact with the road closer than three\n\nhundred (300) feet except when passing the vehicle.\n\n(d) Motor vehicles being driven upon any roadway outside of a\n\nbusiness or residential district in a caravan or motorcade, whether\n\nor not towing other vehicles, shall be so operated as to allow\n\nsufficient space between each such vehicle or combination of\n\nvehicles so as to enable any other vehicle to enter and occupy such\n\nspace without danger. The distance between such vehicles shall be a\n\nminimum of two hundred (200) feet under all conditions. This\n\nprovision shall not apply to funeral processions.\n\n(e) Subsections (a), (b), (c) and (d) of this section shall not\n\napply to a non-lead vehicle in a platoon, as defined in this\n\nsection, or the operator thereof, as long as the platoon consists of\n\nnot more than two motor vehicles.\n\n(f) As used in this section, \"platoon\" means a group of\n\nindividual motor vehicles traveling in a unified manner at\n\nelectronically coordinated speeds at following distances that are\n\ncloser than would be reasonable and prudent without such\n\ncoordination.","path":["OK Code","Title 47"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os47.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"bda758ae1c6f185d32fa4c82efb70134266bdc51c86703f2307e13706494d193","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-11-309","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-11-311"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
