Stat. tit. 47, § 47-1125","heading":"Certain nonresident vehicle owners required to register","body":"vehicle - Exceptions.\n\nA. If the owner of a vehicle becomes employed in this state,\n\nthe vehicle is deemed to be subject to tax in this state and, within\n\nthirty (30) days from the date of employment, shall be registered\n\nupon the same terms and conditions that resident owners are required\n\nto register such vehicles in this state. However, the owner of the\n\nvehicle who is employed in this state and commutes daily from an\n\nadjoining state shall be exempt from the provisions in this section.\n\nThe penalty for failure to register the vehicle in the manner\n\nprovided in this subsection shall be equal to the license or\n\nregistration fee due, and any such vehicle may be seized and held at\n\nany time for any such delinquency and sold for nonpayment of the\n\nlicense or registration fees in the same manner that domestic\n\nvehicles may be seized and sold at any time of the year upon ten\n\n(10) days' notice.\n\nIf the vehicle is detained by a law enforcement officer of this\n\nstate and it is determined that the owner of such vehicle has failed\n\nto comply with the provisions of this subsection, a penalty of Ten\n\nDollars ($10.00) shall be assessed in addition to the penalties\n\npreviously provided in this section. This penalty of Ten Dollars\n\n($10.00) shall be paid to the pension fund of the law enforcement\n\nofficer, as defined in Section 1-147 of Title 47 of the Oklahoma\n\nStatutes, who detained the vehicle.\n\nB. Any student certified as a full-time-equivalent student by\n\nan institution of higher learning in this state and being a\n\nnonresident of Oklahoma, presently attending any institution of\n\nhigher learning, shall not be required to purchase an Oklahoma\n\nlicense plate, provided that the state of residence of such student\n\naffords a similar exemption to Oklahoma students attending\n\ninstitutions of higher learning in such state. This exception for\n\nnonresident students does not apply when such student registers to\n\nvote as a resident in Oklahoma.\n\nC. Any vehicle, including a manufactured home, other than a\n\ncommercial truck which is owned by a visiting nonresident and is\n\nproperly registered in its native state for the current year and\n\nremains here for any period in excess of sixty (60) days shall be\n\nregistered upon the same terms and conditions that resident owners\n\nare required to register such vehicles in this state. Any vehicle\n\nwithin this state, owned by a nonresident which is not properly\n\nregistered in its native state for the current year, shall be\n\nregistered under the same terms and conditions as such domestic\n\nvehicles are required to be registered.","path":["OK Code","Title 47"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os47.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"f2c043b6979516a1c9dbd85cfcafc8d32129f008ec66222b1e8625c7e1d5cd48","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-1124.2","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-1126"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
