Stat. tit. 47, § 47-12-405.1","heading":"Coupling devices - Stay chains, cables or other","body":"safety devices.\n\nA. Every trailer, semitrailer, manufactured home, or towed\n\nmotor vehicle shall be equipped with a coupling device which shall\n\nbe designed, constructed, and used so that the trailer, semitrailer,\n\nmanufactured home, or towed motor vehicle will follow substantially\n\nin the path of the vehicle drawing it without whipping or swerving\n\nfrom side to side. In addition, every such trailer, semitrailer,\n\nmanufactured home, or towed motor vehicle, except a semitrailer\n\ndrawn by a truck-tractor type designed to draw or support the front\n\nend of a semitrailer, shall be coupled with:\n\n1. Stay chains or cables to the vehicle by which it is being\n\ndrawn, which chains or cable shall be of sufficient size and\n\nstrength to prevent parting from the drawing vehicle, should the\n\nregular coupling device break or become otherwise disengaged; or\n\n2. Chains, cables or a safety device which provides strength,\n\nsecurity of attachment and directional stability equal to or greater\n\nthan that provided by safety chains and which prevent parting from\n\nthe drawing vehicle should the regular coupling device break or\n\notherwise become disengaged. The safety device shall be designed,\n\nconstructed, and installed so that if the coupling device fails or\n\nbecomes disconnected the coupling device will not drop to the\n\nground.\n\nB. Nothing in this section shall be construed as excepting\n\ncommercial vehicles subject to the provisions of 49 C.F.R., Subpart\n\nF, Coupling Devices and Towing Methods, from complying with the\n\nprovisions thereof.\n\nC.
