Stat. tit. 47, § 47-12-406","heading":"Safety glazing material or safety glass - Standards -","body":"Identification markings - Sale or replacement.\n\nA. A motor vehicle as specified herein shall not be registered\n\nthereafter unless such vehicle is equipped with safety glazing\n\nmaterial or safety glass of a type prescribed in this section\n\nwherever glazing material or glass is used in doors, windows, and\n\nwindshields. The foregoing provisions shall apply to all passenger\n\ncars, lightweight vehicles, buses, school buses, and church buses,\n\nbut in respect to trucks, including truck-tractors, the requirements\n\nas to safety glazing material or safety glass shall apply to all\n\nglazing material and glass used in doors, windows, and windshields\n\nin the drivers' compartments of such vehicles.\n\nB. The term \"safety glazing materials\" or \"safety glass\" means\n\nglazing materials or glass so constructed, treated, or combined with\n\nother materials as to reduce substantially, in comparison with\n\nordinary sheet glass or plate glass, the likelihood of injury to\n\npersons by objects from exterior sources or by the safety glazing\n\nmaterials or safety glass when they may be cracked or broken.\n\nC. All safety glazing materials and safety glass shall bear the\n\nmanufacturer's trademark and the words \"American Standard\" or the\n\nletters \"AS\" followed by a number indicating the position in which\n\nthe glass shall be used. Safety glazing materials or safety glass\n\nbearing the following identification markings shall be used in the\n\ndesignated locations:\n\n1. Laminated safety glass marked \"AS-1\" is required in\n\nwindshields and is acceptable at any other location in the vehicle;\n\n2. Laminated safety glass marked \"AS-14\" is required in\n\nwindshields and is acceptable at any other location in the vehicle;\n\n3. Laminated or tempered safety glass marked \"AS-2\" is\n\nacceptable for use at any location in the vehicle except the\n\nwindshield;\n\n4. Laminated or tempered safety glass marked \"AS-3\" is\n\nacceptable anywhere on school buses except in windshields and side\n\nwindows to the immediate right and left of the driver's location;\n\n5. Rigid plastic safety glazing material marked \"AS-4\" or \"AS-\n\n5” is acceptable anywhere on school buses except in windshields and\n\nside windows to the right or left of the driver's location;\n\n6. Flexible plastic safety glazing material marked \"AS-6\" or\n\n\"AS-7\" is acceptable for use in rear windows of soft tops, flexible\n\ncurtains, or readily removable windows; and\n\n7. Wire glass marked \"AS-8\" or \"AS-9\" is acceptable for use in\n\nfolding doors, standee and rearmost windows of buses, or windows to\n\nthe rear of the driver in trucks and truck-tractors.\n\nD.
