Except as otherwise provided for by this chapter, no\n\nvehicle, with or without load, shall have a total outside width in\n\nexcess of one hundred two (102) inches excluding:\n\n1. Tire bulge;\n\n2. Approved safety devices;\n\n3. A retracted awning with a width of eight (8) inches or less\n\nor other appurtenance of four (4) inches or less which is attached\n\nto the side of a recreational vehicle, as defined in Section 1102 of\n\nthis title; and\n\n4. Pins used as a safety precaution or as a load-assisting\n\ndevice if the pins do not extend the overall width of the vehicle\n\nbeyond nine (9) feet. The State of Oklahoma hereby declares it has\n\ndetermined, in accordance with 23 C.F.R., Section 658.15, that such\n\npins are necessary for the safe and efficient operation of motor\n\nvehicles.\n\nThe provisions of this subsection shall not apply to any person\n\nengaged in the hauling of round baled hay with a total outside width\n\nof eleven (11) feet or less when the hay is owned by such person and\n\nis being hauled for any purpose other than resale. The provisions\n\nof this subsection shall also not apply to any county official or\n\nemployee engaged in the hauling or pulling of a trailer or equipment\n\nowned by the county on the county roads of such county.\n\nB. Except as otherwise provided for by this chapter:\n\n1. No vehicle, with or without load, shall exceed a height of\n\nthirteen and one-half (13 1/2) feet on any county road, or fourteen\n\n(14) feet on any turnpike, interstate, U.S. or state highway, unless\n\na greater height is authorized by a special permit issued by the\n\nExecutive Director of the Department of Transportation or an\n\nauthorized representative of the Department of Transportation\n\nspecifying the highways to be used, consistent with public\n\nconvenience and safety. The prohibitions on movement as prescribed\n\nin subsection F of Section 14-101 of this title and paragraph 1 of\n\nsubsection G of Section 14-101 of this title shall not apply to\n\nvehicles operated pursuant to such permits;\n\n2. An official state bridge vertical clearance map providing\n\nclearance heights as posted for bridges on the interstate, U.S. and\n\nstate highway systems shall be available on the Oklahoma Department\n\nof Transportation website; and\n\n3. Operators and owners of vehicles which exceed or have loads\n\nwhich exceed thirteen and one-half (13 1/2) feet shall be held\n\nliable for all damages to any part of structures spanning the\n\nhighway or damages suffered by other affected parties caused by the\n\nvehicle or load exceeding the posted height.\n\nC. Except as otherwise provided for by this chapter:\n\n1. No single truck, with or without load, shall have an overall\n\nlength, inclusive of front and rear bumpers, in excess of forty-five\n\n(45) feet;\n\n2. No single bus, with or without load, shall have an overall\n\nlength, inclusive of front and rear bumpers, in excess of forty-five\nted height.\n\nC. Except as otherwise provided for by this chapter:\n\n1. No single truck, with or without load, shall have an overall\n\nlength, inclusive of front and rear bumpers, in excess of forty-five\n\n(45) feet;\n\n2. No single bus, with or without load, shall have an overall\n\nlength, inclusive of front and rear bumpers, in excess of forty-five\n\n(45) feet;\n\n3. a. On the National Network of Highways which includes the\n\nNational System of Interstate and Defense Highways and\n\nfour-lane divided Federal Aid Primary System Highways,\n\nno semitrailer operating in a truck-\n\ntractor/semitrailer combination shall have a length\n\ngreater than fifty-three (53) feet, except as provided\n\nin subsection C of Section 14-118 of this title which\n\nshall apply to semitrailers exceeding fifty-three (53)\n\nfeet but not exceeding fifty-nine (59) feet six (6)\n\ninches. On the National System of Interstate and\n\nDefense Highways and four-lane divided Federal Aid\n\nPrimary System Highways, no semitrailer or trailer\n\noperating in a truck-tractor/semitrailer and trailer\n\ncombination shall have a length greater than fifty-\n\nthree (53) feet;\n\nb. On roads and highways not a part of the National\n\nSystem of Interstate and Defense Highways or four-lane\n\ndivided Federal Aid Primary System Highways, no\n\nsemitrailer operating in a truck-tractor/semitrailer\n\ncombination shall have a length greater than fifty-\n\nthree (53) feet and no semitrailer or trailer\n\noperating in a truck-tractor/semitrailer and trailer\n\ncombination shall have a length greater than twenty-\n\nnine (29) feet. Except as provided for in subsection\n\nD of Section 14-118 of this title, no other\n\ncombination of vehicles shall have an overall length,\n\ninclusive of front and rear bumpers, in excess of\n\nseventy (70) feet on all roads and highways. For the\n\npurposes of this paragraph, oil field rig-up trucks\n\nshall be considered to be truck-tractors, when towing\n\na trailer or semitrailer;\n\nc. On the National Network of Highways the overall length\n\nlimitation of a towaway trailer transporter\n\ncombination may exceed length restrictions up to\n\neighty-two (82) feet;\n\nd. As used in this section:\n\n(1) The term \"trailer transporter towing unit\" shall\n\nmean a power unit that is not used to carry\n\nproperty when operating in a towaway trailer\n\ntransporter combination, and\n\n(2) The term \"towaway trailer transporter\n\ncombination\" shall mean a combination of vehicles\n\nconsisting of a trailer transporter towing unit\n\nand two (2) trailers or semitrailers with a total\n\nweight that does not exceed twenty-six thousand\n\n(26,000) pounds; and in which the trailers or\n\nsemitrailers carry no property and constitute\n\ninventory property of a manufacturer, distributor\n\nor dealer of such trailers or semitrailers;\n\n4. No combination of vehicles shall consist of more than two\n\nunits, except:\n\na. one truck and semitrailer or truck-tractor/semitrailer\n\ncombination may tow one complete trailer or\n\nsemitrailer, or\n\nb. vans, suburbans, blazers or other similar types of\n\nvehicles and self-propelled recreational vehicles with\n\na three-quarter (3/4) ton or more rated capacity may\n\ntow a semitrailer and one complete trailer or\n\nsemitrailer for recreational purposes only, provided\n\nthe overall length, inclusive of the front and rear\n\nbumpers, does not exceed sixty-five (65) feet;\n\n5. Poles and gas lines used to maintain public utility\n\nservices, not to include new construction, may be moved during\n\ndaylight hours, and during nighttime hours only in an emergency,\n\nsubject to traffic and road restrictions promulgated by the\n\nExecutive Director of the Department of Transportation, when the\n\noverall length does not exceed eighty (80) feet. When this length\n\nis exceeded, these loads are subject to the requirements of Section\n\n14-118 of this title;\n\n6. For the purposes of paragraphs 1, 3, and 4 of this\nght hours, and during nighttime hours only in an emergency,\n\nsubject to traffic and road restrictions promulgated by the\n\nExecutive Director of the Department of Transportation, when the\n\noverall length does not exceed eighty (80) feet. When this length\n\nis exceeded, these loads are subject to the requirements of Section\n\n14-118 of this title;\n\n6. For the purposes of paragraphs 1, 3, and 4 of this\n\nsubsection, the length of unitized equipment, which is defined to be\n\nequipment so constructed and attached to a rubber-tired vehicle that\n\nthe vehicle and load become a unit and are for all practical\n\npurposes inseparable, shall be the length of the vehicle itself, and\n\nshall not include any protrusion of the equipment load so\n\nconstructed or attached. The equipment shall not protrude for a\n\ndistance greater than two-thirds (2/3) of the wheel base of the\n\nvehicle, shall not impair the driver's vision, and if less than\n\nseven (7) feet above the roadway, shall be safely marked, flagged or\n\nilluminated. Any such protruding structure shall be securely held\n\nin place to prevent dropping or swaying. Unitized equipment shall\n\ncarry such safety equipment as shall be determined to be necessary\n\nfor the safety, health, and welfare of the driving public by the\n\nExecutive Director of the Department of Transportation;\n\n7. For the purposes of paragraphs 1, 3, and 4 of this\n\nsubsection, a truck-tractor, when being towed by another vehicle\n\nwith the wheels of its steering axle raised off the roadway, shall\n\nbe considered to be a semitrailer as defined in Section 1-162 of\n\nthis title;\n\n8. The provisions of paragraphs 1 and 3 of this subsection\n\nshall not apply to any contractor or subcontractor, or agents or\n\nemployees of any contractor or subcontractor, while engaged in\n\ntransporting material to the site of a project being constructed by,\n\nfor, or on behalf of this state or any city, town, county, or\n\nsubdivision of this state; and\n\n9. Special mobilized machinery, as defined in Section 1102 of\n\nthis title, which exceeds the size provisions of this section shall\n\nonly use the highways of this state by special permit issued by the\n\nExecutive Director of the Department of Transportation or an\n\nauthorized representative of the Executive Director of the\n\nDepartment of Transportation. Such special permit shall be:\n\na. a single-trip permit issued under the provisions of\n\nSection 14-116 of this title, or\n\nb. a special annual oversize permit issued for one (1)\n\ncalendar year period upon payment of a fee of Ten\n\nDollars ($10.00) plus any amount as provided by\n\nsubsection H of Section 14-118 of this title.","path":["OK Code","Title 47"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os47.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"e5dbbb83414dee08956acb3e35d48ca368a97fcdf94a6e29f7b7b7f764564c9e","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-14-101","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-14-103a"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
