As used in this section:\n\n1. \"Affected area\" means the entire width of the right-of-way\n\nof the route extended to a height of twenty-three (23) feet above\n\nthe roadway;\n\n2. \"High-wide load\" means a motor vehicle transporting property\n\non any portion of a route where the vehicle exceeds the limitations\n\non size imposed by Section 14-103 of Title 47 of the Oklahoma\n\nStatutes and no portion of the motor vehicle or the transported\n\nproperty has a greater width than twenty-eight (28) feet or a\n\ngreater height than twenty-three (23) feet; and\n\n3. \"Political subdivision\" means a city, village, town or\n\ncounty.\n\nB. The following routes through Oklahoma are designated as\n\nOklahoma high-wide corridors:\n\n1. US-83 in Beaver County, commencing at the Texas border and\n\nending at the Kansas border; and\n\n2. a. commencing at the intersection of US-83 and US-270 in\n\nBeaver County, proceeding east on US-270 to SH-51 in\n\nDewey County,\n\nb. at the intersection of US-270 and SH-51, proceeding\n\neast on SH-51 to US-77 in Logan County,\n\nc. at the intersection of SH-51 and US-77, proceeding\n\nnorth on US-77 to US-64 in Noble County,\n\nd. at the intersection of US-77 and US-64, proceeding\n\neast on US-64 to SH-108 in Payne County,\n\ne. at the intersection of US-64 and SH-108, proceeding\n\nsouth on SH-108 to SH-51,\n\nf. at the intersection of SH-108 and SH-51, proceeding\n\neast on SH-51 to SH-97 in Tulsa County, and\n\ng. at the intersection of SH-51 and SH-97, proceeding\n\nnorth on SH-97 and ending at East 21st Street; and\n\n3. a. commencing at the intersection of SH-51 and SH-99 in\n\nCreek County, proceeding north on SH-99 to US-60 in\n\nOsage County,\n\nb. at the intersection of SH-99 and US-60, proceeding\n\nwest on US-60 to SH-18, and\n\nc. at the intersection of US-60 and SH-18, proceeding\n\nnorth on SH-18 and ending at the Kansas border; and\n\n4. a. US-169, commencing at the Kansas border in Nowata\n\nCounty and proceeding south on US-169 to SH-266 in\n\nTulsa County, and\n\nb. at the intersection of US-169 and SH-266, proceeding\n\neast on SH-266 and ending at SH-66 in Rogers County;\n\nand\n\n5. a. commencing at the intersection of SH-51 and SH-351 at\n\nthe Tulsa/Wagoner County line, proceeding south and\n\neast on SH-51 to US-69 in Wagoner County,\n\nb. at the intersection of SH-51 and US-69, proceeding\n\nnorth on US-69 to US-60 in Craig County, and\n\nc. at the intersection of US-69 and US-60 in Ottawa\n\nCounty (2.5 mi. NE of Afton), proceeding east on US-60\n\nand ending at the Missouri border; and\n\n6. US-183, commencing at the Texas border in Tillman County and\n\nproceeding north on US-183 and ending at the intersection of SH-51\n\nin Dewey County; and\n\n7. a. commencing at the intersection of US-183 and SH-9 in\n\nKiowa County, proceeding east on SH-9 to SH-146 in\n\nCaddo County,\n\nb. at the intersection of SH-9 and SH-146, proceeding\n\nnorth on SH-146 to SH-152,\n\nc. at the intersection of SH-146 and SH-152, proceeding\n\neast on SH-152 to US-81 in Grady County,\n\nd. at the intersection of SH-152 and US-81, proceeding\n\nsouth on US-81 to SH-37,\n\ne. at the intersection of US-81 and SH-37, proceeding\n\neast on SH-37 to SH-4,\n\nf. at the intersection of SH-37 and SH-4, proceeding\n\nnorth on SH-4 to SH-152 in Canadian County, and\n\ng. at the intersection of SH-152 and SH-4, proceeding\n\neast on SH-152 and ending at MacArthur Boulevard in\n\nOklahoma County; and\n\n8. a. commencing at the intersection of US-270 and US-412 in\n\nWoodward County, proceeding east on US-412 to SH-132\n\nin Garfield County,\n\nb. at the intersection of US-412 and SH-132, proceeding\n\nnorth on SH-132 to SH-45,\n\nc. at the intersection of SH-132 and SH-45, proceeding\n\neast on SH-45 to US-64,\n\nd. at the intersection of SH-45 and US-64, proceeding\n\nnorth on US-64 to US-60 in Grant County,\n\ne. at the intersection of US-64 and US-60, proceeding\n\neast on US-60 to SH-74,\n\nf. at the intersection of US-60 and SH-74, proceeding\nty,\n\nb. at the intersection of US-412 and SH-132, proceeding\n\nnorth on SH-132 to SH-45,\n\nc. at the intersection of SH-132 and SH-45, proceeding\n\neast on SH-45 to US-64,\n\nd. at the intersection of SH-45 and US-64, proceeding\n\nnorth on US-64 to US-60 in Grant County,\n\ne. at the intersection of US-64 and US-60, proceeding\n\neast on US-60 to SH-74,\n\nf. at the intersection of US-60 and SH-74, proceeding\n\nsouth on SH-74 to SH-15 in Garfield County,\n\ng. at the intersection of SH-74 and SH-15, proceeding\n\neast on SH-15 to US-77 in Noble County,\n\nh. at the intersection of SH-15 and US-77, proceeding\n\nsouth on US-77 to SH-15,\n\ni. at the intersection of US-77 and SH-15, proceeding\n\neast on SH-15 to US-177, and\n\nj. at the intersection of SH-15 and US-177, proceeding\n\nsouth on US-177 to US-64.\n\nC. No person shall operate a high-wide load on the route\n\ndescribed without a permit from the Department of Transportation.\n\nD. Exclusive of incorporated municipal limits, no person may\n\ninstall any structure within the affected area without a permit from\n\nthe Department of Transportation.\n\nE. Upon the effective date of this section, and exclusive of\n\nincorporated municipal limits, no person may do any of the following\n\nwithin the affected area:\n\n1. Install any permanent structure without the authorization of\n\nthe Department of Transportation; or\n\n2. Take any action that would make any portion of the affected\n\narea permanently unavailable for use by a high-wide load.\n\nF. The Department of Transportation shall create additional\n\ndesign standards for improvements to the Oklahoma high-wide routes\n\nto prevent interference from permanent structures. These standards\n\nshall:\n\n1. Maintain a minimum eighteen feet and zero inches (18'-0\")\n\nvertical clearance above the road surface for all future overhead\n\nobstructions. Where bridges cross over the Oklahoma high-wide\n\nroutes, they shall be designed, where possible, to allow for high-\n\nwide loads to quickly egress and ingress around the bridge utilizing\n\non- and off-ramps;\n\n2. Require all future overhead signage to be of cantilever\n\ndesign, where possible, to allow high-wide loads to shift lanes to\n\nprevent interference; and\n\n3. Require all future bridge design or construction on the\n\nOklahoma high-wide routes to accommodate a three hundred fifteen\n\nthousand (315,000) pound gross vehicle weight, single-lane design\n\nvehicle.\n\nG. Political subdivisions in which any portion of the Oklahoma\n\nhigh-wide route is located shall attempt to reach agreements among\n\nthe affected parties and with persons using the high-wide route for\n\nhigh-wide loads regarding the allocation of costs and provision of\n\nservices related to removing permanent structures that interfere\n\nwith the use of any portion of the affected area by high-wide loads.\n\nH. Political subdivisions in which any portion of the Oklahoma\n\nhigh-wide route is located shall attempt to reach agreements among\n\nthe affected parties and with persons using the high-wide route for\n\nhigh-wide loads to provide timely vehicle escorts for persons using\n\nthe high-wide route for high-wide loads.","path":["OK Code","Title 47"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os47.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"dec585a8fac08692b4f20ee22e0a54a3fe258d097ee232ea71ad3a79badf8b2b","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-14-125","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-149.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
