Stat. tit. 47, § 47-158.2","heading":"Maintenance of actions","body":"The operation of vehicles, motorized machinery and equipment by\n\nthe Office of Management and Enterprise Services, the State\n\nDepartment of Health, the Department of Public Safety, the\n\nDepartment of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, the\n\nDepartment of Corrections, and all other state departments and\n\nagencies not otherwise specifically authorized by law, is hereby\n\ndeclared to be a public governmental function. An action for\n\ndamages may be brought against such departments, but the\n\ngovernmental immunity of such departments shall be waived only to\n\nthe extent of the amount of insurance purchased. The departments\n\nshall be liable for negligence only while such insurance is in\n\nforce, but in no case in an amount exceeding the limits of the\n\ncoverage of any such insurance policy. No attempt shall be made in\n\nthe trial of any action brought against any such departments to\n\nsuggest the existence of any insurance which covers in whole or in\n\npart any judgment or award which may be rendered in favor of the\n\nplaintiff, and if the verdict rendered by the jury exceeds the\n\nlimits of the applicable insurance, the court shall reduce the\n\namount of said judgment or award to a sum equal to the applicable\n\nlimits stated in the policy.
