Stat. tit. 47, § 47-2-102","heading":"Commissioner of Public Safety - Qualifications -","body":"Appointment - Vacancy - Expenses - Bond - Oath.\n\nA. 1. The Department shall be under the control of an\n\nexecutive officer to be known as the \"Commissioner of Public\n\nSafety\", who shall be appointed by the Governor with the advice and\n\nconsent of the Senate.\n\n2. The Commissioner of Public Safety shall be a professional\n\nlaw enforcement officer with ten (10) years' experience in the field\n\nof law enforcement or with five (5) years' experience in the field\n\nof law enforcement and a graduate of a four-year college with a\n\ndegree in law enforcement administration, law, criminology or a\n\nrelated science.\n\n3. Any vacancy in the office of the Commissioner shall be\n\nfilled in the same manner as the original appointment is made.\n\n4. The Commissioner shall be allowed the actual and necessary\n\nexpenses incurred in the performance of official duties of the\n\nCommissioner while away from the office.\n\nB. The Commissioner of Public Safety, after appointment and\n\nbefore entering upon the discharge of duties, shall take and\n\nsubscribe to the oath of office required by the Constitution.\n\nBonding of the Commissioner of Public Safety and other employees of\n\nthe Department will be provided under the provisions of Section\n\n85.26 of Title 74 of the Oklahoma Statutes.\n\nC. The Commissioner of Public Safety shall be eligible to\n\nparticipate in either the Oklahoma Public Employees Retirement\n\nSystem or in the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Retirement System and\n\nshall make an irrevocable election in writing to participate in one\n\nof the two retirement systems.\n\nD.
