Any person eligible to become a member of the System shall\n\nfile a written application therefor with the Board, and shall\n\ncontinue thereafter as a member of the System so long as the\n\nemployee meets membership requirements. For the purposes of\n\ncomputing contributions, employee contributions, pensions and\n\nannuities, the Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Public\n\nSafety shall be classified and categorized as a member of the\n\nSystem.\n\nB. The Board may, after a hearing held for such purpose, allow\n\nemployees of the Department of Public Safety who were hired by the\n\nDepartment after September 30, 1939, and prior to July 1, 1981, to\n\npay to the System an amount equal to what the employee would have\n\npaid to the System if the employee had been enrolled in the System\n\nfrom the time of first employment. The Board shall determine any\n\ninterest due on the amount paid pursuant to this subsection.
