Stat. tit. 47, § 47-7-103","heading":"Definitions","body":"The following words and phrases when used in Title 47 of the\n\nOklahoma Statutes shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to\n\nthem in this section:\n\n1. \"Judgment\" means any judgment which shall have become final\n\nby expiration without appeal in the time within which an appeal\n\nmight have been perfected, or by final affirmation on appeal,\n\nrendered by a court of competent jurisdiction of any state or of the\n\nUnited States, upon a cause of action arising out of the ownership,\n\nmaintenance or use of any vehicle subject to registration under the\n\nlaws of this state, for damages, including damages for care and loss\n\nof services, because of bodily injury to or death of any person, or\n\nfor damages because of injury to or destruction of property,\n\nincluding the loss of use thereof, or upon a cause of action on an\n\nagreement of settlement for the damages;\n\n2. \"Minimum liability insurance limits\" means:\n\na. for vehicle liability policies issued or renewed\n\nbefore April 1, 2005:\n\n(1) a limit of not less than Ten Thousand Dollars\n\n($10,000.00) because of bodily injury to or death\n\nof one person in any one accident,\n\n(2) subject to the limit for one person as prescribed\n\nin subparagraph a of this paragraph, a limit of\n\nnot less than Twenty Thousand Dollars\n\n($20,000.00) because of bodily injury to or death\n\nof two or more persons in any one accident, and\n\n(3) if the accident has resulted in injury to or\n\ndestruction of property, a limit of not less than\n\nTen Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) because of\n\ninjury to or destruction of property of others in\n\nany one accident, or\n\nb. for vehicle liability policies issued or renewed on or\n\nafter April 1, 2005:\n\n(1) a limit of not less than Twenty-five Thousand\n\nDollars ($25,000.000) because of bodily injury to\n\nor death of one person in any one accident,\n\n(2) subject to the limit for one person as prescribed\n\nin subparagraph a of this paragraph, a limit of\n\nnot less than Fifty Thousand Dollars ($50,000.00)\n\nbecause of bodily injury to or death of two or\n\nmore persons in any one accident, and\n\n(3) if the accident has resulted in injury to or\n\ndestruction of property to a limit of not less\n\nthan Twenty-five Thousand Dollars ($25,000.00)\n\nbecause of injury to or destruction of property\n\nof others in any one accident;\n\n3. \"Motor vehicle liability policy\" means an owner's policy or\n\noperator's policy of liability, as defined in this chapter, issued\n\nby an insurance carrier duly authorized to transact business in this\n\nstate, to or for the benefit of the person named therein as insured.\n\nWith respect to a policy which grants coverage in excess of or in\n\naddition to minimum liability insurance limits, the term motor\n\nvehicle liability policy shall apply only to that part of the\n\ncoverage which is required by minimum liability insurance limits;\n\nand\n\n4. \"Proof of financial responsibility\" means proof of ability\n\nto respond in damages for liability at the minimum liability\n\ninsurance limits:\n\na. resulting from accidents occurring subsequent to the\n\neffective date of the proof,\n\nb. arising out of the ownership, maintenance or use of a\n\nvehicle subject to registration under the laws of this\n\nstate.","path":["OK Code","Title 47"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os47.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"1a4123dc652ff5af59248903ce32310e23004abdb9b848fdce2906c71a3cb46f","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-7-102","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-7-116"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
