The owner of a motor vehicle registered in this state\n\nshall carry in the vehicle at all times a current owner's security\n\nverification form listing the vehicle or an equivalent form which\n\nhas been issued by the Department of Public Safety, and the operator\n\nof the vehicle shall produce the form upon request for inspection by\n\nany law enforcement officer or representative of the Department and,\n\nin case of an accident, the form shall be shown upon request to any\n\nperson affected by the accident.\n\n2. a. Every person registering a motor vehicle in this\n\nstate, except a motor vehicle which is not being used\n\nupon the public highways or public streets, or a\n\nmanufactured home while on a permanent foundation, at\n\nthe time of registration of the vehicle, shall certify\n\nthe existence of security with respect to the vehicle\n\nby providing to a licensed operator or other\n\nregistering agency necessary information from the\n\ncurrent owner's security verification in a manner that\n\nallows verification of coverage through the online\n\nverification system. The information shall include\n\nthe name or number issued by the National Association\n\nof Insurance Commissioners of the current insurance\n\ncarrier authorized to do business in this state and\n\nthe policy number applicable to the vehicle being\n\nregistered. A licensed operator or other registering\n\nagency shall require the submission of the form or\n\nother verifying information prior to processing an\n\napplication for registration or renewal.\n\nb. Every licensed operator or other registering agency\n\nshall use the online verification system to certify\n\nthe existence of security with respect to the vehicle\n\nfrom an insurance carrier authorized to do business in\n\nthis state unless the online verification system is\n\nnot online or the required information is otherwise\n\nnot available. In such a case, the licensed operator\n\nor other registering agency may accept verification as\n\nprovided in subparagraph a of this paragraph or from a\n\nlicensed insurance producer or customer service\n\nrepresentative to certify the existence of the\n\nrequired insurance prior to processing any application\n\nfor motor vehicle registration. Every licensed\n\noperator or other registering agent shall allow\n\nsubmission of proof from a licensed insurance producer\n\nor customer service representative pursuant to this\n\nsubparagraph via electronic mail at no additional cost\n\nto the person registering the vehicle.\n\n3. Fleet vehicles operating under the authority of the\n\nCorporation Commission, the Federal Highway Administration, or\n\nvehicles registered pursuant to the provisions of Section 1120 of\n\nthis title, shall certify the existence of security with respect to\n\neach vehicle at the time of registration by submitting one of the\n\nfollowing:\n\na. a current owner's security verification form verifying\n\nthe existence of security as required by the\n\nCompulsory Insurance Law, or\n\nb. a permit number verified by the Corporation Commission\n\nindicating the existence of a current liability\n\ninsurance policy. Provided, in the event the\n\nCorporation Commission is unable to verify the\n\nexistence of insurance as provided herein in a prompt\n\nand timely fashion, the Corporation Commission may\n\naccept a current single state registration form issued\n\nby the Corporation Commission or any other regulating\n\nentity with which the Corporation Commission has\n\nentered into a reciprocal compact or agreement\n\nregarding the regulation of motor vehicles engaged in\n\ninterstate or foreign commerce upon and over the\n\npublic highways.\n\n4. The following shall not be required to carry an owner's or\n\noperator's security verification form or an equivalent form from the\n\nDepartment of Public Safety during operation of the vehicle and\n\nshall not be required to surrender a security verification form for\n\nvehicle registration purposes:\ntion of motor vehicles engaged in\n\ninterstate or foreign commerce upon and over the\n\npublic highways.\n\n4. The following shall not be required to carry an owner's or\n\noperator's security verification form or an equivalent form from the\n\nDepartment of Public Safety during operation of the vehicle and\n\nshall not be required to surrender a security verification form for\n\nvehicle registration purposes:\n\na. any vehicle owned or leased by the federal or state\n\ngovernment, or any agency or political subdivision\n\nthereof,\n\nb. any vehicle bearing the name, symbol, or logo of a\n\nbusiness, corporation or utility on the exterior and\n\nwhich is in compliance with the provisions of the\n\nCompulsory Insurance Law according to records of the\n\nCorporation Commission which reflect a deposit or\n\nfleet policy,\n\nc. fleet vehicles maintaining current vehicle liability\n\ninsurance as required by the Corporation Commission or\n\nany other regulating entity,\n\nd. any licensed taxicab, and\n\ne. any vehicle owned by a licensed used motor vehicle\n\ndealer.\n\n5. Any person who knowingly issues or promulgates false or\n\nfraudulent information in connection with either an owner's or\n\noperator's security verification form or an equivalent form which\n\nhas been issued by the Department of Public Safety shall be guilty\n\nof a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be subject to a fine not\n\nexceeding Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00), or imprisonment for not\n\nmore than six (6) months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.\n\nB. Each licensed operator is authorized to charge a fee of One\n\nDollar and fifty cents ($1.50) to each person to whom the licensed\n\noperator issues a certificate of registration and who is required to\n\nsurrender proof of financial responsibility, or for whom the\n\nlicensed operator certifies the existence of financial\n\nresponsibility through an authorized online certification system,\n\npursuant to the provisions of the Compulsory Insurance Law. The fee\n\nmay be retained by the licensed operator as compensation for\n\nservices in processing the proof of financial responsibility and for\n\nprocessing the driver license information, insurance verification\n\ninformation, and other additional information furnished to the\n\nlicensed operator pursuant to Section 1112 of this title, if such\n\nlicensed operator does not receive the maximum compensation as\n\nauthorized by law.","path":["OK Code","Title 47"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os47.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"16ca8e8188d4cc725b76e537c5421364e1429462590b26e98ef1551f2e45e955","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-7-601.2","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-47-47-7-602.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
