The Department of Public Safety shall be charged with the\n\nduty of enforcing the provisions of Section 951 et seq. of this\n\ntitle for licensed wreckers and towing services operating in this\n\nstate.\n\nB. Duly appointed peace officers of the political subdivisions\n\nof this state shall have authority to detain and arrest any person\n\noperating a wrecker or tow truck or offering towing services to the\n\npublic for a charge without a valid license issued pursuant to the\n\nprovisions of Section 951 et seq. of this title. Such officers,\n\nupon reasonable belief that any wrecker or tow truck is being\n\noperated without proper authority or without a valid license issued\n\npursuant to Section 951 et seq. of this title, shall be authorized\n\nto require the operator thereof to stop and exhibit such\n\ndocumentation as may be required to establish his or her authority\n\nto tow or transport another vehicle or to prove possession of a\n\nvalid wrecker or tow service license issued in this state. Any\n\nperson convicted of operating a wrecker or tow truck or offering\n\ntowing services to the public for a charge in this state without a\n\nlicense shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and punished with a fine of\n\nOne Thousand Dollars ($1,000.00).
