Stat. tit. 49, § 49-1","heading":"Appointment - Removal","body":"The Secretary of State shall appoint and commission in this\n\nstate notaries public, who shall hold their office for four (4)\n\nyears. An applicant for a notary commission shall be eighteen (18)\n\nyears of age or older, a citizen of the United States, and employed\n\nwithin this state or a legal resident of this state. A national\n\ncriminal history record check, as defined in Section 150.9 of Title\n\n74 of the Oklahoma Statutes, shall be conducted electronically of\n\nany applicant for a notary commission, including any applicant for\n\nrenewal. The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) shall\n\nelectronically obtain fingerprints of the applicant and require that\n\nthe person pay a search fee not to exceed Fifty Dollars ($50.00) or\n\nthe cost of the search, whichever is the lesser amount. The fees\n\nshall be deposited in the OSBI Revolving Fund. The Oklahoma State\n\nBureau of Investigation shall provide the national criminal history\n\nrecord check to the Secretary of State within fourteen (14) working\n\ndays from the receipt of the request. OSBI may contact the Federal\n\nBureau of Investigation to obtain the information requested. A\n\nfelony conviction shall be grounds for removal of a person from the\n\noffice of notary public and shall preclude a person from further\n\napplying for or renewing a notary commission. All notary\n\ncommissions shall run in the name and by the authority of the State\n\nof Oklahoma, be signed by the Secretary of State, and sealed with\n\nthe Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma. Commissions shall not be\n\nattested. Any person filing an application for a new notary\n\ncommission shall pay Fifty Dollars ($50.00) to the Secretary of\n\nState with the application. Any person filing an application for a\n\nrenewal of a notary commission shall pay Forty-five Dollars ($45.00)\n\nto the Secretary of State with the application.
