Stat. tit. 5, § 5-3","heading":"Duties of attorney and counselor","body":"It is the duty of an attorney and counselor:\n\nFirst. To maintain, while in the presence of the courts of\n\njustice, or in the presence of judicial officers engaged in the\n\ndischarge of judicial duties, the respect due to the said courts and\n\njudicial officers, and at all times to obey all lawful orders and\n\nwrits of the court.\n\nSecond. To counsel and maintain no actions, proceedings or\n\ndefenses, except those which appear to him legal and just, except\n\nthe defense of a person charged with a public offense.\n\nThird. To employ for the purpose of maintaining the causes\n\nconfided to him such means only as are consistent with truth, and\n\nnever to seek to mislead the judges by any artifice or false\n\nstatements of facts or law.\n\nFourth. To maintain inviolate the confidence, and, at any peril\n\nto himself, to preserve the secrets of his client.\n\nFifth. To abstain from all offensive personalities, and to\n\nadvance no fact prejudicial to the honor or reputation of a party or\n\nwitness unless required by the justice of the cause with which he is\n\ncharged.\n\nSixth. Not to encourage either the commencement or continuance\n\nof an action or proceeding from motive of passion or interest.\n\nSeventh.
