Stat. tit. 52, § 52-86.3","heading":"Waste of gas - Meaning - Prevention - Prohibition -","body":"Protection of fresh water and oil or gas bearing strata.\n\nThe term \"waste\", as applied to gas, in addition to its ordinary\n\nmeaning, shall include the inefficient or wasteful utilization of\n\ngas in the operation of oil wells drilled to and producing from a\n\ncommon source of supply; the inefficient or wasteful utilization of\n\ngas from gas wells drilled to and producing from a common source of\n\nsupply; the production of gas in such quantities or in such manner\n\nas unreasonably to reduce reservoir pressure or unreasonably to\n\ndiminish the quantity of oil or gas that might be recovered from a\n\ncommon source of supply; the escape, directly or indirectly, of gas\n\nfrom oil wells producing from a common source of supply into the\n\nopen air in excess of the amount necessary in the efficient\n\ndrilling, completion or operation thereof; waste incident to the\n\nproduction of natural gas in excess of transportation and marketing\n\nfacilities or reasonable market demand; the escape, blowing or\n\nreleasing, directly or indirectly, into the open air, of gas from\n\nwells productive of gas only, drilled into any common source of\n\nsupply, save only such as is necessary in the efficient drilling and\n\ncompletion thereof; and the unnecessary depletion or inefficient\n\nutilization of gas energy contained in a common source of supply.\n\nIn order to prevent the waste or to reduce the dissipation of gas\n\nenergy contained in a common source of supply, in addition to its\n\nother powers in respect thereof, the Commission shall have the\n\nauthority to limit the production of gas from wells producing gas\n\nonly to a percentage of the capacity of such wells to produce. The\n\nproduction of gas in the State of Oklahoma in such manner and under\n\nsuch conditions as to constitute waste as in this act defined is\n\nhereby prohibited, and the Commission shall have authority and is\n\ncharged with the duty to make rules, regulations, and orders for the\n\nprevention of such waste and for the protection of all freshwater\n\nstrata and oil- or gas-bearing strata encountered in any well\n\ndrilled for gas.","path":["OK Code","Title 52"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os52.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"2813c67598580866a9e2a6147300d4ba9f4b233c10d84d55cf505c552688560f","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-52-52-86.2","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-52-52-86.4"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
