Stat. tit. 56, § 56-58","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Oklahoma Indigent Health Care Act:\n\n1. \"Department\" means the Department of Human Services;\n\n2. \"Indigent\" or \"medically indigent\" means a person or head of\n\nhousehold:\n\na. (1) with an income less than or equal to the poverty\n\nlevel as designated by the latest decennial\n\ncensus and insufficient personal resources to\n\nprovide for needed medical care for himself or\n\nhis dependents, and\n\n(2) who requires medically necessary hospital or\n\nprimary health care services for himself or his\n\ndependents for which no public or private third-\n\nparty coverage is available, and\n\n(3) who has made no assignment, transfer, or\n\nencumbrance of property for the purpose of\n\nestablishing eligibility for services pursuant to\n\na state or federal medical program or the\n\nOklahoma Indigent Health Care Act at any time\n\nwithin the last twenty-four (24) months, or\n\nb. with an occurrence of a catastrophic injury or illness\n\nto himself or a dependent resulting in noncovered\n\nincurred medical debt for hospital services or for\n\nphysician and drug costs related to a hospital stay\n\nwhich exceed fifty percent (50%) of the gross annual\n\nincome of a person or head of household. Insurance\n\nbenefits for the medical debt shall be first\n\nexhausted;\n\n3. \"Hospital\" means \"hospital\" as that term is defined in\n\nSection 1-701 of Title 63 of the Oklahoma Statutes;\n\n4. \"Clinic\" means a health care facility separate from a\n\nhospital which provides outpatient medical services to patients and\n\nhas a patient mix of at least fifty-one percent (51%) indigent\n\npersons;\n\n5. \"Patient mix\" means the composition of the patient\n\npopulation based on information regarding the payor source.","path":["OK Code","Title 56"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os56.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"5c35a102bd4c46d3c2c0df2380903d32c18a358bb73ae3b65180b61140fe9cde","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-56-56-57.1","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-56-56-59.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
