This act shall be known and may be cited as the “Independent\n\nLiving Services Act”.\n\nB. The Legislature hereby finds and declares that individuals\n\nwith disabilities comprise a large percentage of Oklahoma’s total\n\npopulation. Such individuals need assistance in living fuller and\n\nmore independent lives. Individuals with disabilities receive\n\nassistance in independent living in the form of direct client\n\nservices provided by the Department of Rehabilitation Services and\n\nin the form of independent living services as provided by centers\n\nfor independent living pursuant to the federal Rehabilitation Act of\n\n1973, as amended. However, as currently funded, such services are\n\nnot sufficient to meet the independent living needs of individuals\n\nwith disabilities. As a result, it is necessary to provide state\n\nfunding to expand the services currently provided.\n\nC. For purposes of the Independent Living Services Act:\n\n1. “Independent living center” has the same definition as such\n\nterm is defined by the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as\n\namended, or its implementing federal regulations; and\n\n2. “Independent living services” has the same definition as\n\nsuch term is defined by the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as\n\namended, or its implementing federal regulations.","path":["OK Code","Title 56"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os56.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"389a16d296d9cbbf0b1b6b412422cd2261697d9ce9a32a83a6eedaede05dffb8","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-56-56-608","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-56-56-625.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
