In order to establish a public employee benefit program to\n\nencourage safety in the workplace, the Department of Corrections is\n\nhereby directed to establish an on-the-job employee safety program\n\nwhich encourages work unit safety and reduces lost productivity and\n\ncompensation costs. In order to promote job safety in work units\n\nand provide recognition for work units with exceptional or improving\n\nsafety records, the Department of Corrections is authorized to\n\nexpend from monies available in the Department of Corrections\n\noperating funds so much thereof as may be necessary for the purchase\n\nof recognition awards for presentation to the members of work units\n\nor individual employees with exceptional or improving safety records\n\nor for other significant contributions to achievement of safety-\n\nrelated goals. Recognition awards shall consist of distinctive\n\nwearing apparel, service pins, or U.S. Savings Bonds, the value of\n\nwhich shall not exceed One Hundred Dollars ($100.00) per employee,\n\nwhich recognize the safety achievement of the work unit or\n\nindividual employees.\n\nB. In order to establish a public employee benefit program to\n\nencourage outstanding performance in the workplace, the Department\n\nof Corrections is hereby directed to establish an on-the-job\n\nemployee performance recognition program which encourages\n\noutstanding job performance and productivity. In order to promote\n\nexcellence in job performance and provide recognition for work units\n\nwith exceptional performance, the Department of Corrections is\n\nauthorized to expend from monies available in the Department of\n\nCorrections operating funds so much thereof as may be necessary for\n\nthe purchase of recognition awards for presentation to the members\n\nof work units or individual employees with exceptional job\n\nperformance records or for other significant contributions to the\n\noperation of the Department.
