Unless the power of attorney otherwise provides, language in\n\na power of attorney granting general authority with respect to\n\npersonal and family maintenance authorizes the agent to:\n\n1. Perform the acts necessary to maintain the customary\n\nstandard of living of the principal, the principal's spouse and the\n\nfollowing individuals, whether living when the power of attorney is\n\nexecuted or later born:\n\na. the principal's children,\n\nb. other individuals legally entitled to be supported by\n\nthe principal, and\n\nc. the individuals whom the principal has customarily\n\nsupported or indicated the intent to support;\n\n2. Make periodic payments of child support and other family\n\nmaintenance required by a court or governmental agency or an\n\nagreement to which the principal is a party;\n\n3. Provide living quarters for the individuals described in\n\nparagraph 1 of this subsection by:\n\na. purchase, lease or other contract, or\n\nb. paying the operating costs, including interest,\n\namortization payments, repairs, improvements and\n\ntaxes, for premises owned by the principal or occupied\n\nby those individuals;\n\n4. Provide normal domestic help, usual vacations and travel\n\nexpenses, and funds for shelter, clothing, food, appropriate\n\neducation, including postsecondary and vocational education, and\n\nother current living costs for the individuals described in\n\nparagraph 1 of this subsection;\n\n5. Pay expenses for necessary health care and custodial care on\n\nbehalf of the individuals described in paragraph 1 of this\n\nsubsection;\n\n6. Act as the principal's personal representative pursuant to\n\nthe Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, Sections\n\n1171 through 1179 of the Social Security Act, 42 U.S.C., Section\n\n1320d, as amended, and applicable regulations, in making decisions\n\nrelated to the past, present or future payment for the provision of\n\nhealthcare consented to by the principal or anyone authorized under\n\nthe law of this state to consent to health care on behalf of the\n\nprincipal;\n\n7. Continue any provision made by the principal for automobiles\n\nor other means of transportation, including registering, licensing,\n\ninsuring and replacing them, for the individuals described in\n\nparagraph 1 of this subsection;\n\n8. Maintain credit and debit accounts for the convenience of\n\nthe individuals described in paragraph 1 of this subsection and open\n\nnew accounts; and\n\n9. Continue payments incidental to the membership or\n\naffiliation of the principal in a religious institution, club,\n\nsociety, order or other organization or to continue contributions to\n\nthose organizations.\n\nB.
