Stat. tit. 59, § 59-1017","heading":"Inapplicability","body":"The provisions of The Plumbing License Law of 1955 shall not\n\napply to:\n\n1. Minor repairs, consisting of repairing or replacing faucets\n\nor minor working parts of plumbing fixtures;\n\n2. Farm buildings located outside any city or town unless such\n\nbuildings are connected to a public water or sewer system;\n\n3. Maintenance work for state institutions and school\n\ndistricts;\n\n4. The installation, maintenance, repair, renovation of\n\nautomatic sprinkler systems and related mechanical appurtenances\n\nbeginning at a point where the pipe or piping system provides water\n\nused exclusively for these automatic sprinklers and their related\n\nappurtenances and to standpipes connected to automatic sprinkler\n\nsystems;\n\n5. The construction, installation, maintenance, repair,\n\nrenovation, and/or removal of pipe or piping systems and related\n\nmechanical appurtenances including backflow preventers, appliances\n\nand/or equipment used in connection therewith, directly or\n\nindirectly within or without any building or structure, from a point\n\nor location in a source of potable water supply at which point or\n\nlocation there exists any backflow preventer, provided that said\n\npipe and/or piping systems are for:\n\na. heating, except radiant-floor heating systems as\n\ndefined in subparagraph d of paragraph 9 of Section\n\n1003 of this title,\n\nb. cooling,\n\nc. air conditioning,\n\nd. refrigeration, or\n\ne. boilers and other pressure vessels of whatsoever kind\n\nand character.\n\nA “backflow preventer,” as used herein, means any permanent\n\nmechanical device, or combination of permanent mechanical devices,\n\nof whatever material, which, after installation acts to prevent a\n\nreversal of the normal directional flow of potable water within the\n\npiping system in which it is installed, and shall include, but not\n\nbe limited to, metal checkvalves and airgaps, either naturally or\n\nartificially created. Provided, further, that the exclusionary\n\nprovisions of this paragraph shall apply only to and within\n\ngovernmental agencies, counties, cities and towns which now have or\n\nwhich hereafter may adopt separate laws relating to the licensing,\n\nregistration and regulating of persons engaged, for business\n\npurposes, in any of the areas of trade hereinbefore specified in\n\nthis paragraph; the exemptions herein being provided to apply only\n\nto these items specifically regulated by any such local laws and\n\nordinances; and\n\n6.
