Except as otherwise provided by this section, no person\n\nshall practice speech-language pathology or audiology unless such\n\nperson is licensed pursuant to the Speech-Language Pathology and\n\nAudiology Licensing Act.\n\nB. The Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Licensing Act\n\nshall not be construed to prevent:\n\n1. A person licensed under any other law of this state from\n\nengaging in the profession or occupation for which such person is\n\nlicensed, provided such person does not represent himself or herself\n\nto be a speech-language pathologist or audiologist;\n\n2. An employee of the federal government, state, county or\n\nmunicipal government, or an agency or political subdivision thereof,\n\nfrom engaging in such employee's duties of employment;\n\n3. The hearing testing or any other act conducted by licensed\n\nphysicians within the scope of their licensed profession or by\n\npersons conducting hearing tests or other acts under the direct\n\nsupervision of the physician;\n\n4. The activities and services of a hearing-aid dealer or\n\nfitter so long as the activities and services of such dealer or\n\nfitter are limited to the selection, adaptation, distribution or\n\nsale of hearing aids, and the testing, instruction, and counseling\n\npertaining thereto, as long as such hearing-aid dealer or fitter\n\ndoes not represent himself or herself to be an audiologist;\n\n5. A teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing, certified by the\n\nOklahoma State Department of Education, or certified nationally by\n\nthe Council on Education of the Deaf, from engaging in the\n\nprofession for which such teacher is trained. The services of a\n\nteacher of the deaf and hard-of-hearing shall be directed solely to\n\nthose persons having or suspected of having a hearing disorder;\n\n6. Any person not a resident of this state and who has not\n\nestablished offices in this state, from engaging in the practice of\n\nspeech-language pathology or audiology in this state for a period\n\nthat, in the aggregate, does not exceed seven (7) days in any\n\ncalendar year, if such a person's education and experience is the\n\nsubstantial equivalent to that of a licensed speech-language\n\npathologist or audiologist as described in Section 1605 of this\n\ntitle; and\n\n7. The activities of hearing screening programs which are\n\nconducted by employees or trained volunteers who are providing these\n\nservices under the auspices of public or private charitable\n\nagencies.\n\nC. Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, a\n\nperson licensed in this state to perform speech-language pathology\n\nor audiology services is hereby designated to be a practitioner of\n\nthe healing art for purposes of making a referral for speech-\n\nlanguage pathology or audiology services pursuant to the provisions\n\nof the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Public Law 105-\n\n17, as amended, and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"40be4f5f5446988c070562f718b0d7e9ba623700ab53bbb74cb1d1a009ef2fdd","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-1603","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-1605"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
