As used in the Electrical License Act:\n\n1. “Board” means the Construction Industries Board;\n\n2. “Committee” means the Committee of Electrical Examiners\n\nappointed by the Board;\n\n3. “Electrical apprentice” means any person sixteen (16) years\n\nof age or older whose principal occupation is the learning of and\n\nassisting in the installation of electrical work under the direct\n\nsupervision of a licensed journeyman electrician or electrical\n\ncontractor;\n\n4. “Journeyman electrician” means any person other than an\n\nelectrical contractor who engages in the actual installation,\n\nalteration, repair or renovation of electrical facilities or\n\nelectrical construction work unless specifically exempted by the\n\nprovisions of the Electrical License Act;\n\n5. “Electrical contractor” means any person skilled in the\n\nplanning, superintending and practical installation of electrical\n\nfacilities who is familiar with the laws, rules and regulations\n\ngoverning such work. Electrical contractor also means any\n\nindividual, firm, partnership, corporation, limited liability\n\ncompany or business performing skills of an electrical contractor or\n\nan electrician or the business of contracting, or furnishing labor\n\nor labor and materials for the installation, repair, maintenance or\n\nrenovation of electrical facilities or electrical construction work\n\naccording to the provisions of the Electrical License Act;\n\n6. “Electrical facilities” means all wiring, fixtures,\n\nappurtenances and appliances for, and in connection with, a supply\n\nof electricity within or adjacent to any building, structure or\n\nconveyance on the premises but not including the connection with a\n\npower supply meter or other power supply source;\n\n7. “Category” means the classification by which licenses and\n\nelectrical work may be limited. Such categories shall include but\n\nshall not be limited to installation, maintenance, repair,\n\nalteration, residential, oilfield and commercial;\n\n8. “Temporary journeyman electrician” means any person other\n\nthan a person permanently licensed as a journeyman electrician or\n\nelectrical contractor in this state who meets the temporary\n\nlicensure requirements of Section 1685.1 of this title;\n\n9. “Variance and Appeals Board” means the Oklahoma State\n\nElectrical Installation Code Variance and Appeals Board;\n\n10. “Electrical construction work” means installation,\n\nfabrication or assembly of equipment or systems included in\n\n“premises wiring” as defined in the National Electrical Code\n\n(reference 158:40-1-4. Standard of Installation), and which is\n\nhereby adopted and incorporated by reference. Electrical\n\nconstruction work includes but is not limited to installation of\n\nraceway systems used for any electrical purposes, and installation\n\nof field-assembled systems such as ice and snow melting, pipe-\n\ntracing and manufactured wiring systems. Electrical construction\n\nwork shall not include in-plant work performed by employees of the\n\ncompany owning the plant, work performed by telecommunications\n\nemployees for telecommunications companies or installation of\n\nfactory-assembled appliances or machinery which is not part of the\n\npremises wiring unless wiring interconnections external to the\n\nequipment are required in the field;\n\n11. “Electrical work” means work consisting primarily of the\n\nlayout, installation, maintenance, repair, testing or replacement of\n\nall or part of electrical wires, conduits, apparatus, fixtures,\n\nappliances or equipment for transmitting, carrying, controlling or\n\nusing electricity in, on, outside or attached to a building,\n\nstructure, property or premises. Electrical work shall not mean\n\nwork that is related to or facilitates the construction,\n\ninstallation or maintenance of all or part of an electrical system,\n\nbut which does not involve actual work with any of the electrical\n, fixtures,\n\nappliances or equipment for transmitting, carrying, controlling or\n\nusing electricity in, on, outside or attached to a building,\n\nstructure, property or premises. Electrical work shall not mean\n\nwork that is related to or facilitates the construction,\n\ninstallation or maintenance of all or part of an electrical system,\n\nbut which does not involve actual work with any of the electrical\n\ncomponents provided in this definition; and\n\n12. “Student apprentice” means any person sixteen (16) years of\n\nage or older who complies with the requirements for registration\n\nunder Section 1686 of this title.\n\nB. Class 2 and Class 3 circuits shall be exempt from the\n\nrequirements of electrical licensing of either an electrical\n\ncontractor or a journeyman electrician, provided the work is\n\nperformed in accordance with the National Fire Protection\n\nAssociation 70 requirements for Class 2 and Class 3 circuits.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"1dbe69ed8dcee9a5e45565ea790851383a3873ffd3559473a8352847e3056ab4","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-1681.1","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-1683"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
