No person shall install, replace or repair gas piping\n\nunless such person is licensed under the Mechanical Licensing Act or\n\nis licensed as a plumbing contractor or journeyman plumber pursuant\n\nto the laws of this state.\n\n2. No person shall install, replace or repair floor furnaces or\n\nwall heaters unless such person is licensed under the Mechanical\n\nLicensing Act or is licensed as a plumbing contractor or journeyman\n\nplumber pursuant to the laws of this state.\n\n3. No person shall install, replace or repair any radiant-floor\n\nheating systems unless such person is licensed under the Mechanical\n\nLicensing Act or is licensed as a plumbing contractor or journeyman\n\nplumber pursuant to the laws of this state.\n\nB. The Mechanical Licensing Act shall not apply to:\n\n1. A person who is the property owner of record, or his or her\n\nauthorized representative, when performing minor repair which shall\n\ninclude, but not be limited to, cleaning, adjusting, calibrating and\n\nrepair of mechanical system parts and the replacement of fuses and\n\nroom thermostats, and other minor repairs which shall not include\n\nany repair which could violate the safe operation of the equipment;\n\n2. The installation of portable, self-contained, ductless air\n\nconditioners or heaters;\n\n3. The setting or connecting of detached air conditioning units\n\nwhich utilize flexible ductwork on a manufactured home. The term\n\nmanufactured home shall have the same definition as such term is\n\ndefined in Section 1102 of Title 47 of the Oklahoma Statutes;\n\n4. Any permanent employee of a manufacturing facility, whether\n\nowned or leased, while performing mechanical work on the premises of\n\nsuch facility. The performance of such mechanical work authorized\n\nby this paragraph shall not violate any manufacturer specification\n\nor compromise any health or safety standards and practices in\n\naccordance with state and federal regulations;\n\n5. The service, repair and installation of boilers, pressure\n\nvessels and welded steam lines which are subject to the jurisdiction\n\nof the Commissioner of Labor pursuant to the provisions of the\n\nBoiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act; or\n\n6. Employees of state-owned institutions doing maintenance to\n\nstate-owned facilities which does not violate manufacturer\n\nspecifications nor compromise health or safety standards and\n\npractices.\n\nC. The licensing requirements of the Mechanical Licensing Act\n\nshall not apply to public utilities, public service corporations,\n\nintrastate gas pipeline companies, gas gathering pipeline companies,\n\ngas processing companies, rural electric associations, or municipal\n\nutilities and their subsidiaries during work on their own facilities\n\nor during the performance of energy audits, operational inspections,\n\nminor maintenance, or minor repairs for their customers or on their\n\nown equipment.\n\nD. The licensing requirements of the Mechanical Licensing Act\n\nshall not apply to contractors, the contractor's employees,\n\nemployees of chemical plants, gas processing plants, intrastate gas\n\npipelines, gas gathering pipelines and petroleum refineries during\n\nwork on their own facilities or during the performance of\n\noperational inspections, mechanical work, maintenance, or repairs on\n\ntheir own equipment, the performance of which does not violate any\n\nmanufacturer specification or compromise any health or safety\n\nstandards and practices in accordance with state and federal\n\nregulations.\n\nE. The licensing requirements of the Mechanical Licensing Act\n\nshall not apply to employees of research facilities during work on\n\ntheir own facilities or during the performance of operational\n\ninspections, mechanical work, maintenance, or repairs on their own\n\nequipment used solely for research purposes when such items of\n\nequipment require one or more details of construction not covered by\n\nnormally used national codes and standards or which involve\nng Act\n\nshall not apply to employees of research facilities during work on\n\ntheir own facilities or during the performance of operational\n\ninspections, mechanical work, maintenance, or repairs on their own\n\nequipment used solely for research purposes when such items of\n\nequipment require one or more details of construction not covered by\n\nnormally used national codes and standards or which involve\n\ndestruction or reduce life of the equipment and systems.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"accabaa60fb3f65c9b2e19ad028e17989f01491ef7faea04777e5310093dd64a","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-1850.1","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-1850.11"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
