Stat. tit. 59, § 59-1902","heading":"Definitions","body":"For the purpose of the Licensed Professional Counselors Act:\n\n1. \"Licensed professional counselor\" or \"LPC\" means any person\n\nwho offers professional counseling services for compensation to any\n\nperson and is licensed pursuant to the provisions of the Licensed\n\nProfessional Counselors Act. The term shall not include those\n\nprofessions exempted by Section 1903 of this title;\n\n2. \"Board\" means the State Board of Behavioral Health\n\nLicensure;\n\n3. \"Counseling\" means the application of mental health and\n\ndevelopmental principles in order to:\n\na. facilitate human development and adjustment throughout\n\nthe life span,\n\nb. prevent, diagnose or treat mental, emotional or\n\nbehavioral disorders or associated distress which\n\ninterfere with mental health,\n\nc. conduct assessments or diagnoses for the purpose of\n\nestablishing treatment goals and objectives, and\n\nd. plan, implement or evaluate treatment plans using\n\ncounseling treatment interventions;\n\n4. \"Counseling treatment interventions\" means the application\n\nof cognitive, affective, behavioral and systemic counseling\n\nstrategies which include principles of development, wellness, and\n\npathology that reflect a pluralistic society. Such interventions\n\nare specifically implemented in the context of a professional\n\ncounseling relationship;\n\n5. \"Consulting\" means interpreting or reporting scientific fact\n\nor theory in counseling to provide assistance in solving current or\n\npotential problems of individuals, groups or organizations;\n\n6. \"Referral activities\" means the evaluating of data to\n\nidentify problems and to determine the advisability of referral to\n\nother specialists;\n\n7. \"Research activities\" means reporting, designing, conducting\n\nor consulting on research in counseling;\n\n8. \"Specialty\" means the designation of a subarea of counseling\n\npractice that is recognized by a national certification agency or by\n\nthe Board;\n\n9. \"Supervisor\" means a person who meets the requirements\n\nestablished by the Board and who is licensed pursuant to the\n\nLicensed Professional Counselors Act;\n\n10. \"Licensed professional counselor candidate\" means a person\n\nwhose application for licensure has been accepted and who is under\n\nsupervision for licensure as provided in Section 1906 of this title;\n\nand\n\n11. \"Executive Director\" means the Executive Director of the\n\nState Board of Behavioral Health Licensure.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"7512d3e58f82b7e5f94238fbb96060b77c07e6c59fa405ddff50edc7939a3591","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-1901","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-1903"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
