Stat. tit. 59, § 59-2027","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Respiratory Care Practice Act:\n\n1. \"Board\" means the State Board of Medical Licensure and\n\nSupervision;\n\n2. \"Practice of respiratory care\" shall include, but not be\n\nlimited to, the direct and indirect respiratory care services\n\nincluding but not limited to the administration of medical gases,\n\npharmacological, diagnostic, and therapeutic agents and services\n\nrelated to respiratory care procedures necessary to implement and\n\nadminister treatment, ventilatory support, maintenance of the airway\n\nvia natural or artificial means, specimen collection, disease\n\nprevention, pulmonary rehabilitation, or diagnostic regimen\n\nprescribed by orders of a physician; observing and monitoring signs\n\nand symptoms, physiologic measurements of the cardiopulmonary\n\nsystem, general behavior, general physical response to respiratory\n\ncare treatment and diagnostic testing, including determination of\n\nwhether such signs, symptoms, reactions, behavior or general\n\nresponse exhibit abnormal characteristics; and implementation, based\n\non clinical observations, of appropriate reporting, referral,\n\nrespiratory care protocol, or changes in treatment, pursuant to a\n\nprescription by a person authorized to practice medicine under the\n\nlaws of this state; or the initiation of emergency procedures under\n\nthe rules of the Board or as otherwise permitted in the Respiratory\n\nCare Practice Act. The practice of respiratory care shall also\n\ninclude the terms \"inhalation therapy\" and \"respiratory therapy\".\n\nThe practice of respiratory care shall not include the delivery,\n\nset-up, installation, maintenance, monitoring and the providing of\n\ninstructions on the use of home oxygen and durable medical\n\nequipment;\n\n3. \"Qualified medical director\" means the licensed physician\n\nresponsible for respiratory care services or the licensed physician\n\ndesignated as such by the clinic, hospital, or employing health care\n\nfacility. The physician must be a medical staff member or medical\n\ndirector of a health care facility licensed by the State Department\n\nof Health;\n\n4. \"Respiratory care practitioner\" means a person licensed by\n\nthis state and employed in the practice of respiratory care; and\n\n5. \"Respiratory therapist\" means an individual who has\n\ngraduated from a respiratory therapist program that is accredited by\n\nthe Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) or an\n\nequivalent national respiratory care educational accreditation\n\nagency as identified by the Respiratory Care Advisory Committee and\n\napproved by the State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"15240a720ce0197f375bcd29ef54ce31e9d219fbf0c2eb15c2cd975346e28dfb","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-2026","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-2028"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
