Stat. tit. 59, § 59-3002","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Orthotics and Prosthetics Practice Act:\n\n1. \"Board\" means the State Board of Medical Licensure and\n\nSupervision;\n\n2. \"Committee\" means the Advisory Committee on Orthotics and\n\nProsthetics;\n\n3. \"Licensed orthotist\" means a person licensed under the\n\nOrthotics and Prosthetics Practice Act to practice orthotics and who\n\nis entitled to represent himself or herself to the public by a title\n\nor description of services that includes the term \"orthotic\" or\n\n\"orthotist\";\n\n4. \"Licensed prosthetist\" means a person licensed under the\n\nOrthotics and Prosthetics Practice Act to practice prosthetics and\n\nwho is entitled to represent himself or herself to the public by a\n\ntitle or description of services that includes the term \"prosthetic\"\n\nor \"prosthetist\";\n\n5. \"Orthosis\" means a custom-fabricated or custom-fitted brace\n\nor support designed to provide for alignment, correction, or\n\nprevention of neuromuscular or musculoskeletal dysfunction, disease,\n\ninjury, or deformity, not excluding those of the foot; provided,\n\nhowever, \"orthosis\" does not include soft goods such as fabric or\n\nelastic supports, corsets, arch supports, low-temperature plastic\n\nsplints, trusses, elastic hose, canes, crutches, soft cervical\n\ncollars, dental appliances, or essentially equivalent devices\n\ncommonly sold as over-the-counter items requiring no professional\n\nadvice or judgment in either size selection or use;\n\n6. \"Orthotics\" means the science and practice of evaluating,\n\nmeasuring, designing, fabricating, assembling, fitting, adjusting,\n\nor servicing an orthosis under a prescription from a licensed\n\nphysician for the correction or alleviation of neuromuscular or\n\nmusculoskeletal dysfunction, disease, injury, or deformity;\n\n7. \"Orthotist\" means a person who evaluates, measures, designs,\n\nfabricates, assembles, fits, adjusts, or services an orthosis as\n\nprescribed by a licensed physician for the support or correction of\n\ndisabilities caused by neuro-musculoskeletal diseases, injuries, or\n\ndeformities;\n\n8. \"Prosthesis\" means an artificial medical device that is not\n\nsurgically implanted and that is used to replace a missing limb,\n\nappendage, or another external human body part including an\n\nartificial limb, hand, or foot; provided, however, \"prosthesis\" does\n\nnot include artificial eyes, ears, fingers, toes, dental\n\napplicances, cosmetic devices such as artificial breasts, eyelashes,\n\nor wigs, or other devices that do not have a significant impact on\n\nthe musculoskeletal functions of the body;\n\n9. \"Prosthetics\" means the science and practice of evaluating,\n\nmeasuring, designing, fabricating, assembling, fitting, adjusting,\n\nor servicing prostheses under a prescription from a licensed\n\nphysician;\n\n10. \"Prosthetist\" means a person who evaluates, measures,\n\ndesigns, fabricates, fits, or services a prosthesis as prescribed by\n\na licensed physician for the replacement of external parts of the\n\nhuman body lost due to amputation or congenital deformities or\n\nabsences;\n\n11. \"Registered prosthetist/orthotist assistant\" means a person\n\nregistered under the Orthotics and Prosthetics Practice Act who,\n\nunder the direct supervision of a licensed orthotist or prosthetist,\n\nassists with patient care services or the fabrication of orthoses or\n\nprostheses;\n\n12. \"Registered prosthetic/orthotic technician\" means a person\n\nregistered under the Orthotics and Prosthetics Practice Act who,\n\nunder the direct supervision of a licensed orthotist or prosthetist,\n\nassists with the fabrication of orthoses or prostheses but who does\n\nnot provide direct patient care; and\n\n13. \"Resident\" means a person who has completed an education\n\nprogram in either orthotics or prosthetics recognized by the Board\n\nand is continuing clinical education in a residency recognized by\n\nthe Board and accredited by the National Commission on Orthotic and\nd orthotist or prosthetist,\n\nassists with the fabrication of orthoses or prostheses but who does\n\nnot provide direct patient care;
