Stat. tit. 59, § 59-3006","heading":"Qualifications for licensure and registration -","body":"Alternative requirements – Temporary licensure without examination.\n\nA. The State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision, with\n\nthe assistance of the Advisory Committee on Orthotics and\n\nProsthetics, shall establish qualifications for licensure and\n\nregistration under the Orthotics and Prosthetics Practice Act.\n\nUntil November 1, 2004, the Board shall provide, as set forth\n\nherein, an alternative qualification licensure opportunity for\n\ncurrent practitioners in this state who are unable to meet standard\n\nqualifications. Persons meeting the qualifications of more than one\n\ndiscipline may be licensed in more than one discipline.\n\nB. To be licensed to practice orthotics or prosthetics\n\naccording to standard qualifications, a person shall:\n\n1. Demonstrate certification by the Board for\n\nOrthotist/Prosthetist Certification (BOC), or the American Board for\n\nCertification in Orthotics, Prosthetics \u0026 Pedorthics (ABC); or\n\n2. a. Possess a baccalaureate degree from an institution of\n\nhigher education accredited by a general accrediting\n\nagency recognized by the Oklahoma State Regents for\n\nHigher Education;\n\nb. Have completed an orthotic or prosthetic education\n\nprogram that meets or exceeds the requirements,\n\nincluding clinical practice, of the Commission on\n\nAccreditation of Allied Health Education Programs;\n\nc. Have completed a clinical residency in the\n\nprofessional area for which the license is sought that\n\nmeets or exceeds the standards, guidelines, and\n\nprocedures for residencies of the National Commission\n\non Orthotic and Prosthetic Education or of any other\n\nsuch group that is recognized by the State Board of\n\nMedical Licensure and Supervision; and\n\nd. Demonstrate attainment of internationally accepted\n\nstandards of orthotic and prosthetic care as outlined\n\nby the International Society of Prosthetics and\n\nOrthotics professional profile for Category I orthotic\n\nand prosthetic personnel.\n\nC. To be licensed to practice orthotics or prosthetics under\n\nalternative qualification requirements, a person shall:\n\n1. Pass an examination in the area of licensure, which may be\n\nan available examination designated by the State Board of Medical\n\nLicensure and Supervision or an examination developed by the Board;\n\nand\n\n2. Execute an alternative qualification contract with the State\n\nBoard of Medical Licensure and Supervision the conditions of which\n\nshall be based on the Board's evaluation of the applicant's\n\nexperience and the Board's determination of further experience\n\nneeded or other requirements to be met, which contract shall specify\n\na period of time not to exceed ten (10) years for completion of the\n\nfurther experience or requirements.\n\nD. Upon execution of the alternative qualification contract,\n\nthe Board shall issue a license and shall renew the license subject\n\nto the licensee's making satisfactory progress as required by the\n\ncontract. Persons who satisfactorily complete the alternative\n\nqualification contract shall be thereafter considered as having met\n\nthe qualifications necessary for license renewal.\n\nE. No person shall be permitted to enter into an alternative\n\nqualification contract after October 31, 2004. A person who has not\n\ndone so by October 31, 2004, shall not be issued a license to\n\npractice orthotics or prosthetics without meeting standard\n\nqualifications.\n\nF. Notwithstanding any other provision of this section, a\n\nperson who has practiced full time during the three-year period\n\npreceding the effective date of this act in a prosthetic or orthotic\n\nfacility as a prosthetist or orthotist and has a high school diploma\n\nor equivalent, or who has practiced as an assistant or technician,\n\nmay file an application with the Board within ninety (90) days from\n\nthe effective date of this act for permission to continue to\n\npractice at his or her identified level of practice. Professions and Occupations Page 1482\n\nfacility as a prosthetist or orthotist and has a high school diploma\n\nor equivalent, or who has practiced as an assistant or technician,\n\nmay file an application with the Board within ninety (90) days from\n\nthe effective date of this act for permission to continue to\n\npractice at his or her identified level of practice. The Board,\n\nafter verifying the applicant's work history and receiving payment\n\nof the application fee as established pursuant to this act, shall,\n\nwithout examination of the applicant, issue the applicant a license\n\nor certificate of registration. To make the investigations\n\nnecessary to verify the applicant’s work history, the Board may\n\nrequire that the applicant complete a questionnaire regarding the\n\nwork history and scope of practice. The Board shall take no more\n\nthan six (6) months to verify the work history. Applicants applying\n\nafter the ninety-day application period of this subsection has\n\nexpired shall meet the qualifications elsewhere set forth for\n\nstandard or alternative qualification for licensure or for\n\nregistration as determined by the Board.\n\nG. The Board may authorize the Board Secretary to issue a\n\ntemporary license for up to two (2) years to individuals who have\n\ngraduated from a program and completed their residency as outlined\n\nin subsection B of this section, but not yet passed the licensure\n\nexam. A temporary license authorizing practice under supervision\n\nshall be granted only when the Board Secretary is satisfied as to\n\nthe qualifications of the applicant to be licensed under the\n\nOrthotics and Prosthetics Practice Act except for examination.
