Stat. tit. 59, § 59-3022","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Elevator Safety Act:\n\n1. \"Agency\" means the Oklahoma Department of Labor;\n\n2. \"Certificate of operation\" means a document issued by the\n\nCommissioner and affixed to an elevator that indicates that the\n\nelevator has been inspected and tested and found to be in compliance\n\nwith all applicable standards of operation as determined by the\n\nDepartment of Labor;\n\n3. \"Certificate of operation - temporary\" means a document\n\nissued by the Commissioner that permits temporary use of a\n\nnoncompliant elevator by the general public for not more than thirty\n\n(30) days while minor repairs are being completed;\n\n4. “Commissioner” means the Commissioner of Labor or his/her\n\nauthorized representative;\n\n5. “Chief elevator inspector” means the chief elevator\n\ninspector appointed under the Elevator Safety Act;\n\n6. \"Deputy inspector\" means an inspector appointed by the chief\n\nelevator inspector subject to the approval of the Commissioner under\n\nthe provisions of the Elevator Safety Act;\n\n7. a. \"Elevator\" means any device for lifting or moving\n\npeople, cargo, or freight within, or adjacent and\n\nconnected to, a structure or excavation, and includes\n\nany escalator, power-driven stairway, moving walkway\n\nor stairway chair lift.\n\nb. The term \"elevator\" does not mean any:\n\n(1) amusement ride or device subject to inspection\n\nand regulation under the provisions of Section\n\n460 et seq. of Title 40 of the Oklahoma Statutes,\n\n(2) mining equipment subject to inspection and\n\nregulation by the Department of Mines,\n\n(3) aircraft, railroad car, boat, barge, ship, truck,\n\nor other self-propelled vehicle or component\n\nthereof,\n\n(4) boiler grate stoker or other similar firing\n\nmechanism subject to inspection under the\n\nprovisions of the Oklahoma Boiler and Pressure\n\nVessel Safety Act,\n\n(5) dumbwaiter, conveyor, chain or bucket hoist,\n\nconstruction hoist or similar devices used for\n\nthe primary purpose of elevating or lowering\n\nmaterials, or\n\n(6) elevator, conveyance, manlift or similar device\n\nin grain elevators, grain warehouses, seed\n\nprocessing facilities, feed mills and/or flour\n\nmills which is used by employees, but is not\n\naccessible to or used by customers or members of\n\nthe general public.\n\nThis list is not exhaustive;\n\n8. \"Elevator apprentice\" means an unlicensed person registered\n\nwith the Department of Labor who works under the direct supervision\n\nof a licensed elevator mechanic, licensed elevator contractor, or\n\nlicensed elevator inspector;\n\n9. “Licensed elevator contractor\" means a person or business\n\nentity that possesses a valid elevator contractor's license issued\n\nby the Department of Labor pursuant to the provisions of the\n\nElevator Safety Act and is thus entitled to engage in the business\n\nof erecting, constructing, installing, altering, servicing,\n\nrepairing, or maintaining elevators;\n\n10. \"Licensed elevator inspector\" means a person who possesses\n\na valid elevator inspector's license issued by the Department of\n\nLabor pursuant to the provisions of the Elevator Safety Act and is\n\nthus entitled to engage in the business of inspecting elevators;\n\n11. \"Licensed elevator mechanic\" means a person who possesses a\n\nvalid elevator mechanic's license issued by the Department of Labor\n\nin accordance with the provisions of the Elevator Safety Act and is\n\nthus, when employed by a licensed elevator contractor, entitled to\n\ninstall, construct, alter, service, repair, perform electrical work\n\non, test, and maintain elevators; and\n\n12. \"Private residence\" means a separate dwelling or a separate\n\napartment in a multiple dwelling that is occupied by members of a\n\nsingle-family unit.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"62d29cb4b4a95a2669f5f2a0f56e0077aec716884bb6fce3bdb8412ca2147057","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-3021","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-3023"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
