Stat. tit. 59, § 59-3040.2","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in Shepherd's Law:\n\n1. \"Certified Nurse-Midwife\" or \"nurse-midwife\" shall have the\n\nsame meaning as provided by Section 567.3a of Title 59 of the\n\nOklahoma Statutes;\n\n2. \"Commissioner\" means the State Commissioner of Health;\n\n3. \"Committee\" means the Advisory Committee on Midwifery;\n\n4. \"Department\" means the State Department of Health;\n\n5. \"Licensed midwife\" means a person who practices midwifery\n\nand is licensed under this act;\n\n6. \"Midwifery\" means the practice of:\n\na. providing the necessary supervision, care and advice\n\nto a woman during normal pregnancy, labor and the\n\npostpartum period,\n\nb. conducting a normal delivery of a child,\n\nc. providing normal newborn care, and\n\nd. providing routine well-woman care and screenings;\n\n7. \"Newborn\" means an infant from birth through the first six\n\nweeks of life;\n\n8. \"Normal\" means, as applied to pregnancy, labor, delivery,\n\nthe postpartum period and the newborn period, and as defined by\n\nrules of the State Commissioner of Health, circumstances under which\n\na midwife has determined that a client does not have a condition\n\nthat requires medical intervention;\n\n9. \"Postpartum period\" means the first six weeks after a woman\n\nhas given birth; and\n\n10. \"Unlicensed midwife\" means a person who offers midwifery\n\nservices or holds himself or herself out to be a midwife who is not\n\nlicensed under this act.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"9617710aea46516fb4948b8312c5c45a9e65c698b4e97c24ee38121063be5454","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-3040.13","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-3040.3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
