The Board of Dentistry shall have the following standing\n\ncommittees that shall meet once per year and other times as needed\n\nto study issues affecting the practice of dentistry and the safety\n\nof the public and to make recommendations to the Board:\n\na. Dental Practice Committee,\n\nb. Anesthesia Committee,\n\nc. Specialty Practice Committee,\n\nd. Historical and Retirement Committee, and\n\ne. Assistants, Dental Labs and Other Auxiliary Personnel\n\nCommittee.\n\n2. Each committee shall be cochaired by a current or past Board\n\nmember to be appointed by the Board President with approval by the\n\nBoard and a member of a statewide organization representing dentists\n\nas recommended by such organization.\n\n3. Each committee may have up to ten committee members with the\n\nexception of the Anesthesia Committee which may have up to eighteen\n\nmembers, exclusive of the cochairs.\n\n4. The Board President, with approval of the Board, shall\n\nappoint all committee members. One-half (1/2 or 50%) of the\n\ncommittee members shall be recommended by the Board and one-half\n\n(1/2 or 50%) of the committee members shall be recommended to the\n\nBoard President by a statewide organization representing dentists.\n\n5. Committee members shall be on staggered three-year terms and\n\nshall serve at the pleasure of the Board.\n\nB. There shall be a Dental Hygiene Advisory Committee to be\n\ncomposed of the following members:\n\n1. One current dental hygiene member of the Board;\n\n2. Two dental hygienists recommended by the Board and two\n\ndental hygienists recommended by a statewide organization\n\nrepresenting dental hygienists;\n\n3. The Committee shall have the following functions:\n\na. to develop and propose recommendations to the Board\n\nregarding the education, examination, licensure, and\n\nregulation of dental hygienists,\n\nb. to advise the Board in rulemaking regarding dental\n\nhygiene,\n\nc. to hold meetings at least annually, but not more than\n\nsix (6) times a year, and\n\nd. to work directly with the Allied Dental Education\n\nCommittee in reviews and recommendations for\n\nequivalent dental hygiene programs; and\n\n4. Members of the Committee shall be appointed by the Board and\n\nshall serve a term of three (3) years. Appointments shall be made\n\nso that approximately one-third (1/3 or 33%) of the Committee is\n\nreappointed at any given time. Members may be appointed for\n\nconsecutive terms if recommended by the Board President and approved\n\nby the Board.\n\nC. There shall be an Allied Dental Education Committee.\n\n1. The Board President shall appoint all members of the Allied\n\nDental Education Committee upon approval by the Board;\n\n2. The Allied Dental Education Committee shall:\n\na. review the standards and equivalency of in-state and\n\nout-of-state dental and auxiliary program requirements\n\nand make recommendations to the Board,\n\nb. evaluate individual credentials and programs for the\n\npurpose of issuing dental assistant expanded duty\n\npermits and dental hygiene advanced procedure permits\n\nfrom persons holding out-of-state licenses and permits\n\nbased on CODA or DANB programs and criteria as defined\n\nby the State Dental Act and other statutes and shall\n\nmake recommendations to the Board,\n\nc. recommend standards and guidelines and review criteria\n\nfor all expanded duty programs or courses for dental\n\nassistants from CODA approved programs and non-CODA\n\napproved providers and advanced procedures of dental\n\nhygienists from CODA approved programs or training and\n\nnon-CODA approved programs or training to the Board,\n\nand\n\nd. recommend and develop guidelines for classroom,\n\nelectronic media and other forms of education and\n\ntesting;\n\n3. The Committee shall meet as deemed necessary by the Board\n\nPresident; and\n\n4. The Committee may have up to ten (10) members of whom three\n\nshall have a background in dental education. The Committee shall be\n\ncomposed of:\n\na. the Board President or his or her designee who must be\nand\n\nd. recommend and develop guidelines for classroom,\n\nelectronic media and other forms of education and\n\ntesting;\n\n3. The Committee shall meet as deemed necessary by the Board\n\nPresident; and\n\n4. The Committee may have up to ten (10) members of whom three\n\nshall have a background in dental education. The Committee shall be\n\ncomposed of:\n\na. the Board President or his or her designee who must be\n\na current or past Board Member,\n\nb. the hygiene member of the Board or their designee who\n\nmust be a current or past Board Member,\n\nc. the Dean of the University of Oklahoma College of\n\nDentistry or his or her designee, and\n\nd. up to seven at-large members, one of which must be an\n\neducator and one of which must have a current\n\nCertified Dental Assistant Permit.\n\nD. The Board President shall have the authority to appoint\n\nother ad hoc committees as needed.\n\nE.
