Stat. tit. 59, § 59-328.26","heading":"Dental student or dental hygiene student intern,","body":"resident, or fellow permit.\n\nA. The Board of Dentistry may, without examination, issue a\n\ndental student intern, resident or fellowship permit to a student or\n\ngraduate of an approved dental school or college, or a residency\n\nprogram approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA).\n\nUpon meeting the qualifications and upon approval of the dean or the\n\ngoverning body of any public or private institution any person may\n\nrequest a dental student or dental hygiene student intern, resident\n\nor fellow permit to be issued from the Board, with limited duties as\n\ndefined in the permit. A fellowship permit may only be given to a\n\nperson currently participating in a fellowship program affiliated\n\nwith an accredited dental school.\n\nB. A dental student or dental hygiene student intern, resident\n\nor fellowship permit shall not be issued to any person whose license\n\nto practice dentistry in this state or in another state has been\n\nsuspended or revoked, or to whom a license to practice dentistry has\n\nbeen refused.\n\nC. A dental student or dental hygiene student intern, resident\n\nor fellowship permit shall not authorize the holder to open an\n\noffice for the private practice of dentistry, or to receive\n\ncompensation for the practice of dentistry, except a salary paid by\n\nthe federal government or this state, or their subdivisions, or the\n\npublic or private institution where the holder of the dental student\n\nintern, resident or fellowship permit will be employed.\n\nD. A dental student or dental hygiene student intern with a\n\nvalid dental student intern permit may work under the direct\n\nsupervision of a licensed dentist for compensation upon meeting the\n\nfollowing criteria:\n\n1. The dental student or dental hygiene student intern shall\n\nnotify the Board of the supervising dentist;\n\n2. A dental student or dental hygiene student intern, having\n\nfinished the first year of dental school, may assist in all duties\n\nof a dental assistant pursuant to the administrative rules of the\n\nBoard;\n\n3. A dental student intern, having finished the second year of\n\ndental school, may assist in all duties permitted in paragraph 2 of\n\nthis subsection, radiation safety, coronal polishing and sealants;\n\nand\n\n4. A dental student intern, having finished the second semester\n\nof the third year of dental school, may provide scaling, root\n\nplaning, and local anesthesia.\n\nE. A dental or dental hygiene student intern, resident or\n\nfellowship permit shall automatically expire when the permit holder\n\nis no longer participating in the program offered by the college of\n\ndentistry, the accredited dental college or the institution.\n\nF. The issuance of a dental student intern, resident or\n\nfellowship permit by the Board shall in no way be considered a\n\nguarantee or predetermination of any person to receive a full\n\nlicense issued by the Board.\n\nG. Dental student intern or resident or fellowship permits may\n\nbe renewed annually at the request of the dean of the college or\n\nprogram director of the program approved by CODA and at the\n\ndiscretion of the Board.\n\nH. Residents and Fellows with a valid permit may supervise\n\nstudent dental clinics under the authority of the Dean or Associate\n\nDean of the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry.\n\nI. Students currently enrolled at the University of Oklahoma\n\nCollege of Dentistry or an accredited dental hygiene or dental\n\nassisting program shall be exempted from Sections 328.19 and 328.21\n\nof this title while participating in an educational program located\n\nat the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry or the clinic of\n\nan accredited dental hygiene or dental assisting program.
