Stat. tit. 59, § 59-374","heading":"Medication services procedures","body":"In facilities operated by the Oklahoma Department of Veterans\n\nAffairs, the following medication services procedures shall be\n\nutilized:\n\n1. An inventory record shall be maintained for each Schedule\n\nII-V medication distributed to a nursing station such that each dose\n\n(unit) is documented;\n\n2. For medications which require a prescription, the resident's\n\nfull name will be affixed to the resident's individual drawer\n\nlocated on the medication cart; and the medication strength, dosage,\n\nand directions for use will be located on the medical administration\n\nrecord (MAR);\n\n3. For over-the-counter medications that are prescribed, the\n\nresident's full name will be affixed to the resident's individual\n\ndrawer located on the medication cart; and the medication strength,\n\ndosage, and directions for use will be located on the medical\n\nadministration record (MAR);\n\n4. When a resident is permanently discharged, the unused\n\nmedication shall be returned to the facility pharmacy as required by\n\nUnited States Department of Veterans Affairs guidelines;\n\n5. Noncontrolled medications prescribed for residents who have\n\ndied and noncontrolled medications which have been discontinued\n\nshall be returned to the facility pharmacy; and\n\n6. Facilities may maintain nonprescription drugs as bulk\n\nmedications. Bulk medications may include drugs listed in a\n\nformulary developed by the facility pharmacist, medical director,\n\nand director of nursing. Nonformulary over-the-counter medications\n\nmay be prescribed if the resident has therapeutic failure, drug\n\nallergy, drug interaction or contraindication to the over-the-\n\ncounter formulary. In addition, bulk dispensing of prescription\n\nmedications may include controlled and noncontrolled medications.\n\nFacilities shall establish policies and procedures to assure the\n\nsafe administration of all medications and full accountability of\n\ncontrolled medications.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"e99659d085a9917e733a9b98c9816035685b3b9683268b02e34dde571f1092ed","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-369","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-375.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
