Stat. tit. 59, § 59-396","heading":"Oklahoma Funeral Board - Appointment - Term -","body":"Qualifications.\n\nThere is hereby re-created, to continue until July 1, 2029, in\n\naccordance with the provisions of the Oklahoma Sunset Law, the\n\nOklahoma Funeral Board. Any reference in the statutes to the\n\nOklahoma State Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors shall be a\n\nreference to the Oklahoma Funeral Board. The Board shall consist of\n\nseven (7) persons, who shall be appointed by the Governor. The term\n\nof membership of each member of the Board shall be five (5) years\n\nfrom the expiration of the term of the member succeeded. Any member\n\nhaving served as a member of the Board shall be eligible for\n\nreappointment. Provided, that a member of the Board shall serve no\n\nmore than two consecutive terms and any unexpired term that a member\n\nis appointed to shall not apply to this limit. The Governor shall\n\nappoint the necessary members to the Board upon vacancies and\n\nimmediately prior to the expiration of the various terms. Upon\n\nrequest of the Governor, appointments of a licensed embalmer and\n\nfuneral director member of the Board shall be made from a list of\n\nfive qualified persons submitted by the Oklahoma Funeral Directors\n\nAssociation. An appointment to fill a vacancy shall be for the\n\nunexpired term. A member of the Board shall serve until a successor\n\nis appointed and qualified. No person shall be a member of the\n\nBoard, unless, at the time of appointment, the person is of good\n\nmoral character and a resident of this state. Five of the members\n\nshall have been actively engaged in the practice of embalming and\n\nfuneral directing in this state for not less than seven (7)\n\nconsecutive years immediately prior to the appointment of the\n\nperson, shall have an active license as provided by the Funeral\n\nServices Licensing Act, shall keep the license effective, and shall\n\nremain a resident of this state during the entire time the person\n\nserves on the Board. Two of the members of the Board shall be\n\nchosen from the general public, one of whom shall, if possible, be a\n\nperson licensed and actively engaged in the health care field, and\n\nshall not be licensed funeral directors or embalmers or have any\n\ninterest, directly or indirectly, in any funeral establishment or\n\nany business dealing in funeral services, supplies, or equipment.\n\nThese two members shall be appointed to serve for five-year terms.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"95c4054cbab497e7dadd11947296a2823f6953619d5eb91a18d8f6f3b20f2581","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-395.1","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-396.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
