Stat. tit. 59, § 59-4200.2","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Massage Therapy Practice Act:\n\n1. \"Board\" means the State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering;\n\n2. \"Direct access\" means the ability that the public has to\n\nseek out treatment by a massage therapist without the direct\n\nreferral from a medical or health care professional;\n\n3. \"Massage therapist\" means an individual who practices\n\nmassage or massage therapy and is licensed under the Massage Therapy\n\nPractice Act. A massage therapist uses visual, kinesthetic, and\n\npalpatory skills to assess the body and may evaluate a condition to\n\nthe extent of determining whether massage is indicated or\n\ncontraindicated;\n\n4. \"Massage therapy\" means the skillful treatment of the soft\n\ntissues of the human body. Massage is designed to promote general\n\nrelaxation, improve movement, relieve somatic and muscular pain or\n\ndysfunction, stress and muscle tension, provide for general health\n\nenhancement, personal growth, education and the organization,\n\nbalance and integration of the human body and includes, but is not\n\nlimited to:\n\na. the use of touch, pressure, friction, stroking,\n\ngliding, percussion, kneading, movement, positioning,\n\nholding, range of motion and nonspecific stretching\n\nwithin the normal anatomical range of movement, and\n\nvibration by manual or mechanical means with or\n\nwithout the use of massage devices that mimic or\n\nenhance manual measures, and\n\nb. the external application of ice, heat and cold packs\n\nfor thermal therapy, water, lubricants, abrasives and\n\nexternal application of herbal or topical preparations\n\nnot classified as prescription drugs; and\n\n5. \"Massage therapy school\" means a facility providing\n\ninstruction in massage therapy.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"442504a01ad28032507b7d811230177b6f278edb038ae9c01b7dd54de00d0549","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-4200.13","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-4200.3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
