Stat. tit. 59, § 59-4200.3","heading":"Licensed massage therapist - When license is required -","body":"Restrictions on practicing massage therapy\n\nA. Unless a person is a licensed massage therapist, a person\n\nshall not:\n\n1. Use the title of massage therapist;\n\n2. Represent himself or herself to be a massage therapist;\n\n3. Use any other title, words, abbreviations, letters, figures,\n\nsigns or devices that indicate the person is a massage therapist; or\n\n4. Utilize the terms \"massage\", \"massage therapy\" or \"massage\n\ntherapist\" when advertising or printing promotional material.\n\nB. A person shall not maintain, manage or operate a massage\n\ntherapy school offering education, instruction or training in\n\nmassage therapy unless the school is a licensed massage therapy\n\nschool pursuant to Section 7 of this act.\n\nC. Individuals practicing massage therapy under the Massage\n\nTherapy Practice Act shall not perform any of the following:\n\n1. Diagnosis of illness or disease;\n\n2. High-velocity, low-amplitude thrust;\n\n3. Electrical stimulation;\n\n4. Application of ultrasound;\n\n5. Use of any technique that interrupts or breaks the skin; or\n\n6. Prescribing of medicines.\n\nD. Nothing in the Massage Therapy Practice Act shall be\n\nconstrued to prevent:\n\n1. Qualified members of other recognized professions who are\n\nlicensed or regulated under Oklahoma law from rendering services\n\nwithin the scope of the license of the person, provided the person\n\ndoes not represent himself or herself as a massage therapist. A\n\nphysician or other licensed health care provider providing health\n\ncare services within the scope of practice of the physician or\n\nprovider shall not be required to be licensed by or registered with\n\nthe State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering;\n\n2. Students from rendering massage therapy services within the\n\ncourse of study when enrolled at a licensed massage therapy school;\n\n3. Visiting massage therapy instructors from another state or\n\nterritory of the United States, the District of Columbia or any\n\nforeign nation from teaching massage therapy, provided the\n\ninstructor is duly licensed or registered, if required, and is\n\nqualified in the instructor's place of residence for the practice of\n\nmassage therapy;\n\n4. Any nonresident person holding a current license,\n\nregistration or certification in massage therapy from another state\n\nor recognized national certification system determined as acceptable\n\nby the Board when temporarily present in this state from providing\n\nmassage therapy services as a part of an emergency response team\n\nworking in conjunction with disaster relief officials or at special\n\nevents such as conventions, sporting events, educational field\n\ntrips, conferences, traveling shows or exhibitions;\n\n5. Physicians or other health care professionals from\n\nappropriately referring to duly licensed massage therapists or limit\n\nin any way the right of direct access of the public to licensed\n\nmassage therapists; or\n\n6. The practice of any person in this state who uses touch,\n\nwords and directed movement to deepen awareness of existing patterns\n\nof movement in the body as well as to suggest new possibilities of\n\nmovement while engaged within the scope of practice of a profession\n\nwith established standards and ethics, provided that the services\n\nare not designated or implied to be massage or massage therapy.\n\nPractices shall include but are not limited to the Feldenkrais\n\nMethod of somatic education, Rolf Movement Integration by the Rolf\n\nInstitute, the Trager Approach of movement education, and Body-Mind\n\nCentering. Practitioners shall be recognized by or meet the\n\nestablished standards of either a professional organization or\n\ncredentialing agency that represents or certifies the respective\n\npractice based on a minimal level of training, demonstration of\n\ncompetency, and adherence to ethical standards.\n\nE. A physician or other licensed health care provider providing\n\nhealth care services within their scope of practice shall not be\nrecognized by or meet the\n\nestablished standards of either a professional organization or\n\ncredentialing agency that represents or certifies the respective\n\npractice based on a minimal level of training, demonstration of\n\ncompetency, and adherence to ethical standards.\n\nE.
