Stat. tit. 59, § 59-519.2","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Physician Assistant Act:\n\n1. \"Board\" means the State Board of Medical Licensure and\n\nSupervision;\n\n2. \"Committee\" means the Physician Assistant Committee;\n\n3. \"Practice of medicine\" means services which require training\n\nin the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease, including the\n\nuse and administration of drugs, and which are performed by\n\nphysician assistants so long as such services are within the\n\nphysician assistants' skill. For a physician assistant required to\n\npractice under supervision of a delegating physician, services form\n\na component of the physician's scope of practice, and are provided\n\nwith physician supervision, including authenticating by signature\n\nany form that may be authenticated by the delegating physician's\n\nsignature with prior delegation by the physician;\n\n4. \"Physician assistant\" means a health care professional,\n\nqualified by academic and clinical education and licensed by the\n\nState Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision, to practice\n\nmedicine as a physician assistant;\n\n5. \"Delegating physician\" means an individual holding a license\n\nin good standing as a physician from the State Board of Medical\n\nLicensure and Supervision or the State Board of Osteopathic\n\nExaminers, who supervises one or more physician assistants and\n\ndelegates decision making pursuant to the practice agreement;\n\n6. \"Supervision\" means overseeing or delegating the activities\n\nof the medical services rendered by a physician assistant through a\n\npractice agreement between a delegating physician and the physician\n\nassistant working jointly toward a common goal of providing\n\nservices. Delegation shall be defined by the practice agreement.\n\nThe physical presence of the delegating physician is not required as\n\nlong as the delegating physician and physician assistant are or can\n\nbe easily in contact with each other by telecommunication. At all\n\ntimes a physician assistant required to practice under supervision\n\nshall be considered an agent of the delegating physician;\n\n7. \"Telecommunication\" means the use of electronic technologies\n\nto transmit words, sounds or images for interpersonal communication,\n\nclinical care (telemedicine) and review of electronic health\n\nrecords; and\n\n8. \"Practice agreement\" means a written agreement between a\n\nphysician assistant and a delegating physician concerning the scope\n\nof practice of the physician assistant to only be determined by the\n\ndelegating physician and the physician assistant based on the\n\neducation, training, skills and experience of the physician\n\nassistant. The agreement shall involve the joint formulation,\n\ndiscussion and agreement on the methods of supervision and\n\ncollaboration for diagnosis, consultation and treatment of medical\n\nconditions and shall include the scope of and any limitations on\n\nprescribing.
