Stat. tit. 59, § 59-540.2","heading":"Definitions","body":"As used in the Therapeutic Recreation Practice Act:\n\n1. \"Therapeutic recreation specialist\" means a person licensed\n\nto practice therapeutic recreation in the State of Oklahoma;\n\n2. a. \"Therapeutic recreation\" or \"recreation therapy\" means\n\nthe specialized application of recreation to assist\n\nwith the treatment and/or maintenance of the health\n\nstatus, functional abilities, recreational and leisure\n\nactivities and ultimately quality of life for\n\nindividuals hospitalized and/or receiving treatment\n\nfor various diagnoses and individuals with\n\ndisabilities. For purposes of accomplishing\n\ntherapeutic recreation goals, therapeutic recreation\n\nmay include:\n\n(1) remediating or restoring an individual’s\n\nparticipation levels in recreational and leisure\n\nactivities that are limited due to impairment in\n\nphysical, cognitive, social or emotional\n\nabilities,\n\n(2) analyzing and evaluating recreational activities\n\nto determine the physical, social, and\n\nprogrammatic elements necessary for involvement\n\nand modifying those elements to promote full\n\nparticipation and maximization of functional\n\nindependence in recreational and leisure\n\nactivities, and\n\n(3) using recreational modalities in designed\n\nintervention strategies to maximize physical,\n\ncognitive, social, or emotional abilities to\n\npromote participation in recreational and leisure\n\nactivities.\n\nb. For purposes of accomplishing therapeutic recreation\n\ngoals, therapeutic recreation services include, but\n\nare not limited to:\n\n(1) conducting an individualized assessment for the\n\npurpose of collecting systematic, comprehensive,\n\nand accurate data necessary to determine the\n\ncourse of action and subsequent individualized\n\ntreatment plan,\n\n(2) planning and developing the individualized\n\ntherapeutic recreation treatment plan that\n\nidentifies an individual’s goals, objectives, and\n\npotential treatment intervention strategies for\n\nrecreational and leisure activities,\n\n(3) implementing the individualized therapeutic\n\nrecreation treatment plan that is consistent with\n\nthe overall treatment program,\n\n(4) systematically evaluating and comparing the\n\nindividual’s response to the individualized\n\ntherapeutic recreation treatment plan and\n\nsuggesting modifications as appropriate,\n\n(5) developing a discharge plan in collaboration with\n\nthe individual, the individual’s family,\n\ntreatment team, and other identified support\n\nnetworks where appropriate,\n\n(6) identifying and training in the use of adaptive\n\nrecreational equipment,\n\n(7) identifying, providing, and educating individuals\n\nto use recreational and leisure resources that\n\nsupport a healthy, active and engaged life,\n\n(8) minimizing the impact of environmental\n\nconstraints as a barrier to participation in\n\nrecreational and leisure activities,\n\n(9) collaborating with and educating the individual,\n\nfamily, caregiver, and others to foster an\n\nenvironment that is responsive to the\n\nrecreational and leisure needs of the individual,\n\nand\n\n(10) consulting with groups, programs, organizations,\n\nor communities to improve physical, social, and\n\nprogrammatic accessibility in recreational and\n\nleisure activities;\n\n3. \"Board\" means the State Board of Medical Licensure and\n\nSupervision; and\n\n4. \"Committee\" means the Therapeutic Recreation Committee.","path":["OK Code","Title 59"],"source_url":"https://www.oklegislature.gov/OK_Statutes/CompleteTitles/os59.pdf","current_through":"2026-08-14","vintage":"open-us-law v2026.08, retrieved 2026-09-14","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T18:32:36Z","sha256":"af3b930dddb44e399a531caf60d3b0e3bbd5c3caf9cae3856d3c35ab943ffef9","source_id":"us-ok","stale":false,"prev":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-540.12","next":"us-ok/okla.-stat.-tit.-59-59-540.3"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
